Why Solo Leveling Season 3 Could Be Disastrous for Sung Jin-woo

Solo Leveling producer Atsushi Kaneko recently shared an update regarding a big loss that Sung Jin-woo could experience in Season 3, if it happens. After Season 2 of this popular anime dropped in January 2025, it instantly became a hit. After breaking numerous records, Solo Leveling also became the anime of the year at this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Sung Jin-woo’s loss could be heartbreaking in Solo Leveling Season 3

Solo Leveling producer Atsushi Kaneko recently revealed that Sung Jin-woo will face a big loss in Season 3, if it gets greenlit by the studio.

While speaking to Screen Rant at the Anime Expo 2025, Kaneko shared that the loss would not be Jin-woo losing anything physically. However, it would be a personal loss, something that will be close to his heart.

In his statement, Kaneko conveyed, “If we get a season three, Jinwoo would become the strongest, but he would lose something in that regard. He would be incomplete. We want to show that conflict, and I would be happy to show that.” The producer also stated that Season 3 will be a journey into Jin-woo’s emotional side. While Jin-woo gets stronger and achieves new abilities, he might face a challenge in retaining his humanity.

Additionally, Kaneko conveyed that the creators want Solo Leveling to achieve the influence that anime like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto have on the Japanese audience. He said, “While thrilled with the response, I personally don’t feel like the series is known by everyone at this point. Solo Leveling isn’t as universally recognized in Japan yet. As a Japanese person living in Japan, the anime is not at the level of Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto. But if season three happens, that’s when I want to truly break that boundary.”

Despite the massive success of Solo Leveling Season 2, it will likely take a while until Season 3 arrives.
