Here are details on why Carol took the drug.
Carol’s Thiopental Sodium drug scene in Pluribus explained
Carol steals two bottles of thiopental sodium from the hospital to inject into herself. However, she makes everyone around her believe that she has planned to inject heroin. After reaching home, she picks up the drug and injects it into herself, while keeping the camera in front to record the whole process. The only thing she wanted to know through the recorded tape was whether the drug worked when it came to bringing out the truth from a person.
While reviewing the footage, she eventually understands that the drug worked. In the clip, she appeared to be reeling over Helen’s death, was talking to herself, and also read a book dramatically. At the end, she passes out. The footage prompts her to use the drug to reveal the truth from Zosia. After heading back to the hospital, she injects the anesthetic into Zosia’s IV and later takes her to a room for interrogation.
Carol presses Zosia for answers, wanting her to reveal details on how to reverse the joining and rectify the situation. Despite her efforts, Zosia doesn’t respond, leaving it unclear whether the drug is preventing her or if she’s resisting. In the end, Carol’s drug plan fails, leaving her with no concrete answers and in another medical crisis.
