A pair of true-crime podcasters unearth a cold case from the 1980s and get into all sorts of trouble in the new, Collider-exclusive trailer for Something Undone. Madison Walsh, Michael Musi, and Billy Campbell star in this tale of long-buried secrets and small-town terror. The Canadian-made series will make its US premiere on July 8 on the streaming service MHz Choice.
In the trailer, Musi (Kim’s Convenience) plays Farid Kamar, the co-host of the true-crime podcast Unsettled. He’s gone to a small town in Newfoundland where a family was brutally murdered in the 1980s: the crime remains unsolved. Walsh (The Expanse) plays his partner Jo, who does all the gruesome foley work for the podcast herself, doing unspeakable things to vegetables to replicate the sounds of tearing flesh and shattering bones; she’s back home in Toronto, clearing out her late mother’s house. Farid is having trouble getting the locals to talk, but he’s starting to suspect that a sinister local preacher (Campbell, The Rocketeer) may know more than he’s letting on. Jo, meanwhile, is far away from the action…but she’s starting to wonder if she’s truly alone in the house. The series also stars Mary Walsh (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Shaun Majumder (From), and Nicole Power (Glamorous).
How Was ‘Something Undone’ Created?
Something Undone was a product of the pandemic. With the lockdowns devastating the creative industries in Canada, the CBC introduced the Creative Relief Fund, which took pitches for series that could be filmed under quarantine conditions. Thus, the first season of Something Undone was born: six twelve-minute web-original episodes of Walsh, in her own house, talking to her out-of-town partner. The show was well-received, and a second season was filmed when restrictions were lifted, allowing the show to film in Newfoundland with a larger cast; it depicted the other side of Walsh’s conversations, as her partner dug into an unsolved mystery. When international suitors came calling, the two seasons were spliced into a single, cohesive narrative.
True crime podcasting has been a plot point in several recent works. The Hulu comedy-mystery series Only Murders In the Building revolves around a trio of podcasters and amateur sleuths who get involved in a series of real murders, while David Gordon Green‘s Halloweensequel features a pair of podcasters who end up as some of the escaped Michael Myers’ first victims.
Something Undone will premiere on July 8 on MHz Choice. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
