Tom Sandoval and his band, Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras, gave their final performance on America’s Got Talent (AGT)last weekend. It was the Quarterfinals week, where they lost their place in the competition to comedian Shuler King. This came the night after they delivered a disappointing performance, which led Simon Cowell to hit his red “X” buzzer.
Here are the details on what happened during the Quarterfinals week and how they were eliminated from AGT.
After weeks of intense performances, Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras could not make it to the top five and were eliminated from the show.
During the Quarterfinals 1 episode, they performed The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.” The performance didn’t land well with the judges, resulting in the band receiving the red buzzer.
Simon Cowell, who had liked their audition performance, hit his “X” and criticized their singing as not being good enough. Other judges had mixed feelings. Sofia Vergara, along with Mel B and Howie Mandel, were more supportive of the band. They complimented the group’s dancing and enthusiasm on stage, calling the performance entertaining.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sandoval admitted that AGT gave him a chance to show a different side of himself, especially after past drama. He revealed that the band practiced nonstop for over a week and struggled to find the right song. Eventually, they chose one they felt fit the show and wanted to perform in their own style.
Addressing Cowell’s critique, Sandoval said, “Right before I went on, my in-ears kinda went out,” referring to his audio monitors. “So I was flying in the dark there.” Despite the setback, he refused to make excuses and added, “I had a blast.”
While Sandoval’s AGT journey ended, four other acts advanced: Light Wire, Sirca Marea, Steve Ray Ladson, and Jourdan Blue.
