This ‘Lost in Space’ Star’s Thrilling Sci-Fi Horror Film Finds a New Streaming Home


Taylor Russell’s 2019 psychological horror Escape Roomis coming to Netflix on September 1, 2025. Directed by Adam Robitel (Insidious: The Last Key), the film follows six strangers who participate in a series of deadly escape room challenges. Despite mixed critical reception, Escape Room was a surprise box office hit and grossed over $155 million worldwide against a production budget of $9 million. The film’s success led to the 2021 sequel, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, with Russell reprising her role as Zoey.

The original film features a strong ensemble cast including Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Tyler Labine, Nick Dodani, and more. Logan Miller and Deborah Ann Woll reprised their roles for the sequel, while new additions include Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Thomas Cocquerel, and Carlito Olivero. Escape Room currently holds a 51% critics’ score and a 54% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The second installment in the franchise saw a slightly warmer reception with a 75% audience rating.

Other titles hitting Netflix in September are Michael Keaton’s supernatural thriller White Noise (2005), Shrek the Third (2007), and all seasons of Franklin & Bash. WednesdaySeason 2 Part 2, Alice in Borderland Season 3, and Jason Bateman’s limited crime series, Black Rabbit, are some of the Netflix originals leading the upcoming month’s slate.

Taylor Russell Might Be Teaming Up With ‘Wednesday’ Star Next

As per a news report, Russell and Jenna Ortega(Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice)are in talks to star in a remake of the 1992 psychological thriller Single White Female. The original film, directed by Barber Schroeder, stars Bridget Fonda as a newly single woman in New York City who discovers that her new tenant (Jennifer Jason Leigh)is dangerously obsessed with her. Single White Female was a commercial success and grossed over $84.1 millionworldwide against a relatively small budget of $16 million. The upcoming project is a collaboration between Sony and Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures, though no director is currently attached.

The news was followed by the confirmation that Russell had exited the upcoming remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, where she was set to star opposite Michael B. Jordan. A news report shares that the Escape Room star stepped away from the project due to creative differenceswith Amazon MGM Studios. Production of the romantic heist film is currently underway in London, and the studio is working to recast Russell’s role. The Thomas Crown Affair is slated for a March 2027 release with Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, and Danai Gurira in supporting roles.

Russell is set to star in Na Hong-jin’s upcoming Korean thriller Hope, alongside Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander,and HoYeon Jung. The film is set in a remote harbor town, Hopo Port, where a mysterious discovery puts the residents’ lives at risk. Hope is expected to premiere in 2026, but an exact release date is yet to be announced.

Escape Room will be available to stream on Netflix starting September 1.
