This Fantastic ‘The Voice’ Performance Proved Why the Super Save Is a Great Addition This Season

Boasting one of the strongest rosters of singers in recent memory, The Voice Season 27 has provided viewers with wall-to-wall talent. Over the course of each round, it’s been brutal watching some of our favorite singers leave the competition at the hands of the coaches. But, following the end of the Playoffs, the producers surprised coaches Michael Bublé, John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, and Adam Levine with a major twist: the Super Save. Rather than sending two singers to the Live round, they were each able to select one previously eliminated singer to return for their shot to earn a chance to sing in the finale.

With four very different strategies, each coach brought back a smattering of singers. For Team Legend, he opted to welcome Olivia Kuper Harris back into the competition. Though some feared that the way the Super Save was introduced was a bit controversial, Olivia Kuper Harris reminded us why we truly needed this twist. If we hadn’t had the Super Save, we would never have witnessed a historic moment on The Voice.

Olivia Kuper Harris Had a Historic ‘The Voice’ Moment

When Olivia Kuper Harris first entered The Voice arena for her Blind Audition, she came in with a mission to marry the past with the present. With a vintage charm and pure vocals, her rendition of “Dream a Little Dream of Me” earned three chair turns from everyone but Michael Bublé. It was curious that the crooner wouldn’t want to collaborate with a like-minded singer, but alas, it worked out for Olivia in the end. She chose to join Team Legend and never looked back. Well, that was until he selected Renzo and Bryson Battle to move to the live shows. Renzo was an obvious decision, but the potential he saw in Bryson outweighed his faith in Olivia. Thankfully, when Super Save was announced, there was no hesitation in inviting Olivia back for one more chance to sing.

The thing about The Voice is that the show focuses on the coaches’ drive to win more than the singer’s potential beyond the show. Yet, there are singers who are aware of the format and utilize their time on the show to make their moment worthwhile. Olivia Kuper Harris is one such singer. Like her first performance of the season, she went back to the classics to stay true to her artistry. Brought to life in a sepia-tone world, Olivia Kuper Harris took her second chance and showcased her soulful skills in a timeless rendition of “Someone To Watch Over Me.” She’d be someone perfect for Postmodern Jukebox, but she’s been there, done that!

Unlike American Idol, the coaches tend to have a heavy hand in song selection after the Blind Audition. Many of Olivia’s song selections teetered on classic sensibility with a modern edge. Even when she performed Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” It had that Postmodern Jukebox flair. So now, thanks to the Super Save, her fate was back in her hands with her exceptional song selection, arrangement, and production value. This performance may go down in history as one of the best performances of the season, perhaps ever on The Voice.

Olivia Kuper Harris Will Be a Star After ‘The Voice’

As the Team Legend member sang so effortlessly, she not only earned her Super Save, but she proved that whether she moves into the finals or not, she can be a star. In her video package, she revealed that she has been on tour singing backup vocals for Teddy Swims, but she is more than a backup singer. She’s a star. If anything, this performance secured an album of covers done in the OKH way. Sadly, Olivia was not selected to move into the finale, ending her time on The Voice.

The Super Save was a controversial twist because of how it was rolled out, but Olivia’s performance put all the doubts aside. Everyone deserves a chance to shine as long as they can on The Voice. This extra performance gave Olivia a further path to pursue her dreams. If The Voice had any doubts about implementing this twist for Season 28, Olivia gave them assurance that they should do it again. They just need to tweak how they present it.
