HBO Max has revealed the opening scene for season 2 of The Pitt, and while it doesn’t reveal much, it could hint at what the finale for this season will look like. The Pitt is one of the most innovative medical dramas currently on TV, focusing on the attending physician Dr. Michael Robinavitch, better known as Dr. Robby.
Season 1 of the show explored a single 15-hour shift in the ER, while also highlighting the past and traumas experienced by the leading man as he confronts the anniversary of the death of his mentor during the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 2 is following a similar format with each episode covering one hour of a single shift, but things look very different this time around.
The ER is a hectic setting full of chaos and emergencies that require immediate attention. But the setting for The Pitt season 2 takes place on Robby’s last day before taking a three-month sabbatical. It also happens to be the fourth of July, meaning things are likely to be as hectic as ever. But things could get much worse, according to one fan theory.
A Dark Fan Theory Claims Robby Will Suffer A Motorcycle Accident In The Pitt Season 2
The Pitt season 1 revealed the extent of the mental strain that Robby is under. Unfortunately, he is also unable to fully deal with and overcome this struggle, which is likely connected to why he is now taking a three-month sabbatical from the hospital. But one fan on Reddit suggested something far more intense could be coming in the season 2 finale.
Robby is due to spend the time away on a motorcycle trip, which appears to be reconfirmed in the opening scene, as we can see Robby riding a motorcycle towards the hospital and arriving in the building. However, as is the case with many police procedurals or other dramas that make a point of mentioning when someone is on their last shift, or due to retire soon, this is the moment when things tend to go really wrong.
The theory here is that Robby will get into a motorcycle accident at some point in season 2, leaving him in a critical condition, and with the staff already struggling to manage the Independence Day workload, things could get very bad, very quickly.
Considering Robby can be seen riding through the streets, looking happy and well-rested, ahead of another grueling shift, along with the subtle detail that he is not wearing any helmet, may all point to the intense misfortune that is about to strike in the follow-up season of this award-winning medical drama.
Robby’s Accident Would Explain Why The Cast Sticks Around After Their Shift
Adding more fuel to the fire for this theory, The Pitt season 2 is set to be 15 episodes long, the same as the premiere season. In terms of how that impacts the story, this is a vital detail, because the show plays out in real time with each episode covering an hour of the shift.
And in season 1, they made a point of revealing a typical shift in their hospital is 12 hours long. Evidently, the chaos that ensued in the final episodes of season 1 demanded that staff stay on and work overtime, but that means season 2 will also need to justify what is keeping the team at work after their usual work hours have finished.
If Robby were to get into a serious accident, it makes sense that the rest of the hospital team would rally together, dedicate additional time, and do everything they can to ensure that he makes it out the other side of whatever happened. But even if the show doesn’t see Robby caught up in a motorcycle accident, something intense is bound to happen.
Things Will Get Worse For Robby In The Pitt Before They Get Better
While The Pitt season 1 introduced the audience to Robby, and helped to unpack some of his emotional trauma from the death of his mentor and the strain of the pandemic, Robby is still in the middle of these struggles. He hasn’t made steps towards healing, and it feels like something big will need to happen to push him towards recovery.
The Pitt season 2 may pick up 10 months after the last episode, but unless Robby is willing to face his trauma, rather than keep it buried, things are certain to get worse before they can get better. This could mean he faces another tragedy, or that he is personally caught up in something that forces him to be vulnerable and lean on help from others.
For that reason, it makes sense that something could happen to Dr. Robby before season 2 ends. Ultimately, The Pitt hasn’t hesitated to go deep with its characters before, and push these people to their limits, which makes a theory like Robby getting into a serious accident all the more plausible.
