The Most Unique Horror Movie of 2025 Is Coming to Shudder Soon

The past few years have proven great for our canine friends in cinema. Channing Tatum’s Dog, Grant Gustin’s Rescued by Ruby, and Sandra Huller’s Anatomy of a Fall all brought the dogs front and center and enjoyed fans’ love. But none of these portrayed our furry friends in a horror set-up or in a leading role like this year’s Good Boy. Directed by Ben Leonberg, the ambitious project garnered a lot of buzz for its genre and lead actor Indy the Dog’s safety in the movie.

Good Boy will soon come home on Shudder for fans to see at leisure. The movie debuted at the SXSW festival and garnered praise from critics. When the first trailer came out, the audience grew concerned for Indy, as it showed the canine sensing the presence of an evil entity, and no one likes a movie where the dog dies. Upon its arrival in theaters, it was well received by fans, making it a box office success. It earned a whopping $8.5 million on a $70,000 budget, along with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics and a close 82% from fans.

What To Expect From ‘Good Boy’

The movie follows Indy the Dog, who moves with his favorite human Todd (Shane Jensen) to a rural, uninhibited cabin in the woods. Things take a turn when Indy uncovers a supernatural force lurking in the shadows. As the dark entities start to threaten Todd, his brave dog comes to the rescue. Good Boy marks a one-of-its-kind movie, where we see the haunting from the perspective of a dog, giving fans a completely new concept. Indy is accompanied by Jensen, Arielle Friedman, and Larry Fessenden. It’s a thrilling and brilliant watch, especially for pet parents. Collider’s Nate Richard writes in his review:

“Good Boy never wears out its concept. The supernatural elements are simple enough, and Leonberg makes a smart move in never directly telling the audience what exactly this ghost is, instead relying on visuals. It helps better put the audience in Indy’s shoes/paws. After all, he’s the one we’re rooting for, and we obviously don’t want to see yet another horror movie where the dog, once again, dies.”

Good Boy comes to Shudder on November 21. You can check out the trailer above and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
