There’s just no keeping this vigilante killer down. Today, Paramount+ has announced that they’ve given the greenlight to the second season of the hit Showtime original series Dexter: Resurrection. We’ve been expecting this news for quite some time now, but now that it’s official, fans can finally prepare themselves for the return of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan as the story that started earlier this year continues. In a special video paired with the exciting news, Hall addressed the franchise’s sprawling fandom for tuning in week after week to help the latest spin-off take flight. Teasing “more to come,” the award-winning actor revealed that “the writers’ room is assembling now” with further “details” just over the horizon.
Not only did the debut season of Dexter: Resurrection breathe new life into the serial killer-centered franchise, but it also righted the wrongs of the past, specifically the ill-fated 2021 Dexter: New Blood. Though it seemed Hall’s titular killer would never rise again, the creative team behind the project found a way to bring him back from the dead and allowed his story to continue in a way that delighted audiences. During the first season, viewers tagged along with Dexter as he searched for his son, Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott), in New York City. Meanwhile, Dexter was pulled into a secret collective of serial killers and tried to stay one step ahead of Detective Angel Batista (David Zayas). Thanks to the stories started in Season 1, which had more than one incredibly shocking moment, the sophomore installment has plenty of room to grow into something even bigger.
Not Every ‘Dexter’ Spin-Off Will Receive Its Happy Ending
2025 was the year of the Dexter revival, with Paramount+ delivering audiences not just one but two fresh projects to come from the world of Hall’s character. Along with the present-day Dexter: Resurrection, viewers were also invited to turn the clock back and uncover the younger days of Dexter’s life thanks to Dexter: Original Sin. With a cast led by Patrick Gibson in the role of an up-and-coming Dexter, the series saw the would-be killer establish his life as a forensic intern at the Miami Metro Police Department under the watchful eye of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), and boss, Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar).
The prequel was a smash hit right off the bat, drawing in viewership numbers left and right. Audiences rejoiced when, in April, the title was renewed for a second season, but they were incredibly disheartened and gut-punched just a few months later after Paramount reversed its decision, canceling the series in August.
Despite Dexter: Original Sin’s cancellation, it seems as though there’s plenty of life left in Dexter: Resurrection. Check out Hall’s message above and stay tuned to Collider for more information about the sophomore installment.
