If you’re a fan of clever whodunits, there’s a brand-new mystery series you’ll want to add to your watchlist. Acorn TV, the home to British mystery hit series like Midsomer Murders and Inspector George Gently, recently introduced its latest crime drama, and it’s proven to be an instant hit. The show, Irish Blood, premiered to rave reviews, debuting with a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers were equally impressed as the series quickly became the most successful launch in Acorn TV’s history, topping the charts in both viewership and new subscribers within weeks. Starring Clueless icon Alicia Silverstone,Irish Blood wrapped its first season on a high note, but fans can rest easy knowing more mysteries are on the way, as the show has officially been renewed for Season 2.
News of the renewal came just ahead of the Season 1 finale, which aired on September 8. The show centers around Silverstone’s Fiona Fox, an L.A. divorce lawyer who, after receiving a mysterious package from her father, “travels to Ireland to uncover the truth only to find herself entangled in a web of family secrets, lies, and danger.” Viewers have particularly praised its fast-paced nature and intriguing premise as well as the performances of the cast. “It means so much to continue this journey with a character I love,” said Silverstone in a statement. “Thank you to everyone who’s watched and supported, and to the phenomenal Irish crew and actors who made working there such a joy, and to the entire team across this series. We’re so happy to have found a captive audience who enjoyed the ride from beginning to end.”
Irish Blood Season 1 unfolded across 6 hour-long episodes, and the upcoming Season 2 will stick to the same format, but there’s a catch. Fans will need a bit of patience, as filming on Season 2 isn’t scheduled to begin until early 2026. However, the production has promised no further delays, with a studio executive, Rob Fox, noting in a statement that they “can’t wait to get started on season two.” As with the first season, filming will take place in Ireland, where the show is also set, featuring locations including Dublin, County Wicklow, and the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland.
