‘Back to the Future’ (1985)

Thanks to a pair of electric lead performances, both arguably the most memorable in both Fox and Lloyd’s stacked careers, and a central story full of sci-fi quirks and a beating heart, Back to the Future cemented itself as one of the best films of the ’80s four decades ago. Now, many years later, it hasn’t aged a day and is sure to be the best thing you’ll watch this week.

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018)

The utterly hilarious Crazy Rich Asians follows New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she heads to her boyfriend’s (Henry Golding) hometown of Singapore for a wedding, only to realize he is the most eligible bachelor in Asia and not everyone approves of their relationship.

Blending both a forward-thinking slice of better representation in the rom-com genre with some of its most-loved, classic tropes, Crazy Rich Asians has something for everyone. Visually stunning and narratively indulgent, this 2018 hit has everything a rom-com lover could want, whilst never feeling like a parody of genre entries to come before. ‘Elvis’ (2022)

With Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere bringing the musical biopic to the big screen right now, an exciting small-screen offering comes in the form of The King. Starring Austin Butlerin the titular hip-thrusting role, Elvis follows the icon throughout his life, from the moments that influenced him as a child to a turbulent relationship with his manager and the hits that made him world-famous.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, Elvis features a typically dazzling color palette, with Luhrmann putting his signature stamp on every frame. Butler delivers his best lead performance to date in Elvis, one that earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, with the movie also picking up another seven nominations (though sadly not winning any). As a new arrival on Netflix this November, Elvis isn’t to be missed.
