Tessa Thompson Reveals the MCU Character She’d Want to Crossover With Most [Exclusive]

Since her MCU debut in Taika Waititi’s incredibly fun, charming, and visually stunning Thor: Ragnarok, Tessa Thompson has become a beloved member of the ever-growing superhero-centered universe. Her character, Valkyrie, is not only up to the task of taking on any threat — from this planet or another — but she’s also more than fit to be a leader, a role she stepped into when she took over as the King of New Asgard. She’s also been there to provide plenty of comedic relief, putting Chris Hemsworth’s Thorin his place whenever the opportunity arises. And, while she’s loved the varying aspects of Valkyrie’s personality that she’s been able to play into, Thompson admits she’s excited to see what the future might hold in creating a more rounded-out character.

During a recent chat with Perri Nemiroff for a new installment of Collider Ladies Nightto discuss her upcoming adaptation of Hedda, Thompson opened up about her favorite aspects of being part of the massively successful superhero-centered franchise, saying, “One of the things that is so cool about getting to play in the MCU is obviously all the incredible actors that you get to act alongside.” Sharing her hopes for what’s to come down the line for Valkyrie, she added,

“Then also, depending on the tone of the film that you exist in, you get to find these new facets of the character. So, I feel like I’ve mostly existed in kind of a comedic space with Valkyrie, but I’m curious if I were in a film that felt less comedic, how she would show up in those particular spaces.”

Tessa Thompson’s Dream Crossover

Aside from Hemsworth, her numerous appearances in the MCU have allowed Thompson to work alongside other favorites like Brie Larson, Jeff Goldblum, Natalie Portman, and Mark Ruffalojust to name a few. But, when it comes to better fleshing out Valkyrie as a more serious character, there’s one member of the team whom she’d love to share a storyline with, definitively telling Nemiroff, “Sebastian Stan.” Stan has been involved with the MCU since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger in the role of James Barnes, better known as Bucky. Throughout the years, Bucky has had one of the franchise’s most interesting arcs, with his latest appearance in Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts* solidifying him as a pinnacle of the next phase.

Explaining why Stan is her top choice, Thompson said,

“I don’t know what his character would bring out in me, necessarily, but I just really love Sebastian. We really want to make something together eventually. It might not be in the MCU, but I just think he’s such a tremendous actor, and it would be so fun to get to play with him.”

At this time, Stan is confirmed to be part of Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Doomsday, while in Thompson’s case, the rumor mill is churning with no official confirmation yet made by Marvel Studios. Should the pair cross paths in Doomsday or any other project, we’d love to see what they’d impart upon each other, and so would Thompson, as she wrapped that part of the interview, telling Nemiroff, “I think there could be something there.”
