Inspired by a series of novels by Robyn Carr, Sullivan’s Crossing is a romantic drama that balances fraught daily history with the modern relationships in a small town on the Canadian-American border.
The series begins when Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) suffers a career setback in Boston. The neurosurgeon decides to leave the city and return to the campground her father runs to recharge. She and her father (Scott Patterson), however, have been estranged ince she was a teenager.
Maggie’s attempt to hold onto her life and Boston while making a home at the Crossing is what fuels a lot of the conflict in the first season of the show. By season 3, however, Sullivan’s Crossing’s ensemble has expanded and become a series about all forms of love and relationships.

Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4: Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 is now officially greenlit, and here’s what we know for sure about next season, including the story and who will return.
It is Maggie’s journey that the series has been following…
Character: Kohan’s Maggie Sullivan is at the center of the Sullivan’s Crossing ensemble. She has worked hard to become a neurosurgeon since she was a teenager, but living in Sullivan’s Crossing helps her realize there are other ways to practice medicine and help people.
Her relationships also form a huge part of the series as she reconnects with her father, makes amends with those from her past, and discovers feelings for someone new in her hometown. It is Maggie’s journey that the series has been following so far.
Scott Patterson As Harry ‘Sully’ Sullivan
Born On December 11, 1958
Actor: Though Scott Patterson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was raised in New Jersey. Patterson actually pursued a baseball career before he became more interested in acting. His big break ultimately came in Gilmore Girls in 2000.
Since then, despite having numerous roles before and after, Patterson has become known for playing cantankerous father figures. Though he started his career in movies, Patterson has spent equal time on movies and television in the years since his career began.
| Notable Movies & TV Shows | Role |
|---|---|
| Little Big League (1994) | Mike McGrevey |
| Gilmore Girls (2000) | Luke Danes |
| The Saw Franchise (2007) | Agent Peter Strahm |
| Aliens In America (2007) | Gary Tolchuk |
| The Event (2010) | Michael Buchanan |
Character: Sully is a bit rough around the edges, but he has a big heart. Maggie sees Sully as the father who abandoned her when they first reunite, but she also sees Sully inspire loyalty in everyone around him.
Sully runs Sullivan’s Crossing, a campground passed down through his family. Though he struggles to keep it afloat, he also treats the grounds as his family legacy and treats the land and its original inhabitants with the respect they deserve.
Chad Michael Murray As Cal Jones
Born On August 24, 1981
Actor: Born and raised in Buffalo, New York in a large family, Chad Michael Murray took a trip to Orlando, Florida for a modeling contest in 1999. When he landed an agent, he made the move to California and began modeling professionally before breaking into the acting world in 2000.
It can be argued that Murray’s breakout role was as Tristan in Gilmore Girls, but he also landed multiple roles on the same network not long after. His real breakout role would be courtesy of One Tree Hill, where he was able to transition to directing and writing as well. Since then, Murray has been all over TV and movies.
| Notable Movies & TV Shows | Role |
|---|---|
| Gilmore Girls (2000) | Tristan Dugray |
| One Tree Hill (2003) | Lucas Scott |
| A Cinderella Story (2004) | Austin Ames |
| Agent Carter (2015) | Jack Thompson |
| Freakier Friday (2025) | Jake |
Character: Cal Jones is a bit of a mystery at the start of the show. He has been staying at Sullivan’s Crossing and helping out where he can, but the former lawyer is really decompressing from a tragic past, not unlike many of the people who find themselves drawn to the Crossing.
Cal is immediately drawn to Maggie, though she is in a long-term relationship when they first meet. He is someone who is always there for the Sullivans, whether that be to help with repairs, tracking down lost campers, or helping them to save the campground from being sold.
Tom Jackson As Frank Cranebear
Born On October 27, 1948
Actor: Tom Jackson was born on the One Arrow Reserve in Saskatchewan to a Cree woman and an English man, and his heritage has become a big part of the roles he takes on in Canadian television and movies. While he started acting professionally in the 1980s, he began singing folk music professionally in the 1990s.
Jackson’s big break came courtesy of the children’s program Shining Time Station, but he is likely best known today for his role in the Canadian drama North of 60. While Jackson is a prolific actor, most of his TV roles have been in one-off appearances.
| Notable Movies & TV Shows | Role |
|---|---|
| Loyalties (1986) | Eddy |
| Shining Time Station (1991) | Billy Twofeathers |
| North Of 60 (1992) | Peter Kenidi |
| Cold Pursuit (2019) | White Bull |
| Outlander (2019) | Tehwahsehkwe |
Character: Frank Cranbear is Sully’s oldest friend and helps him run Sullivan’s Crossing. Frank is not just Sully’s friend, but also his Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor. He is usually laid-back when it comes to the problems facing the Crossing, but he takes his responsibilities as Sully’s sponsor very seriously.
Frank also has a healthy amount of pride in his heritage. He cut himself off from his family after realizing that they sold his mother’s ceremonial regalia after her death, feeling like they deliberately wronged him. Frank is helpful and offers those around him a lot of grace, but he can also hold a grudge.
Andrea Menard As Edna Cranebear
Born On January 5, 1971
Actor: Andrea Menard is another Canadian actor with First Nation heritage in Sullivan’s Crossing. She has Metis ancestry, which has been integrated into her character for the series. Menard is also an accomplished jazz singer and writer.
Menard’s big break came from her solo one-act play she wrote and starred in in 1998 called The Velvet Devil. The play was eventually made into a TV movie as well. Menard has mostly made her entertainment home in television, appearing in several popular Canadian procedurals before landing Sullivan’s Crossing.
| Notable Movies & TV Shows | Role |
|---|---|
| Skipped Parts (2000) | Dot |
| Moccasin Flats (2003) | Detective Amanda Strongeagle |
| The Velvet Devil (2006) | Velvet Laurent |
| Rabbit Fall (2007) | Officer Tara Wheaton |
| Tribal (2020) | Teresa |
…the beating heart of Sullivan’s Crossing.
Character: Edna Cranebear runs the Outpost and is often the voice of reason in Sullivan’s Crossing. She is the one who often encourages those she cares about to solve problems by talking to one another. Edna wants Frank to talk to his relatives about how he feels, and she wants Sully and Maggie to actually talk about their history.
She is often a proponent of taking the simplest approach to a problem before overthinking matters. Edna’s compassion and her willingness to problem-solve make her the beating heart of Sullivan’s Crossing.
Sullivan’s Crossing Supporting Cast & Characters
In addition to the main characters who live and work out of Sullivan’s Crossing, there are plenty of other friends who live in the small town and help to flesh out the storylines and relationships between the characters.

Reid Price As Rob Shandon: Sydney’s brother, Rob runs a local restaurant that was the dream of his late wife. Since his wife’s death, he has had trouble connecting with his young son.
Amalia Williamson As Lola Gunderson: Lola is initially an antagonist for Maggie in the series. The two grew up together, and Maggie often viewed Lola as her replacement since Sully helped Lola and her mother after a family tragedy.
Dakota Taylor As Rafe Vadas: Rafe is one of the local firefighters. While he’s friendly with Maggie and Cal, he is Sydney’s primary love interest in the series, who has trouble trusting her.
