Fascinatingly, Crown Champion: Legends of the Arena is a multi-faceted RPG where you’re the owner of a group of gladitorial combatants, trying to make it in the world: “Your task will be to oversee the training of your fighters and build your estate into an effective school of combat, all while trying to enhance your personal reputation and standing among the nobles of the realm. This is an expensive business, and the king demands his taxes – so you must make sure to manage your treasury with care and attention.”
Part of the game naturally involves combat, but you’ll also be developing your academy and training your party members before that combat actually takes off. Developed by Pilgrim Adventures, Crown Champion has been around since October 2016 and still has “very positive” reviews to this day. This is a single-player game, and should take you around 10-ish hours to complete.
Throughout the game, you’ll fight through 12 different arenas on your way to reach the royal city of Aldmoor (with the end goal of personally impressing the king and queen), and develop relationships with your fighters as you navigate the world’s political climate.
Oh, and there’s some life sim stuff too: “And of course, you must have a life outside of the arena. Find a husband or wife to share in your glory. Build stables and start keeping a team of racing horses to bring more money into your household. Forge a legacy to last the ages.” For the low price of free, that’s not a bad way to spend a weekend.
