Hollow Knight: Silksong, the elusive game I’d pretty much given up all hope would ever actually launch, is finally on its way. Team Cherry has been cooking up something truly special, as evidenced by the limited yet striking gameplay footage we’ve seen thus far of the game. Silksong looks like everything we’d want from a follow-up to one of the greatest Metroidvanias ever made, and a game that’ll do justice to the fans who’ve waited so long.
Of course, as we continue to endure the agonizing wait for Silksongfor just a short while longer, we can begin speculating wildly about its release, gameplay mechanics, and numerous challenging bosses I’m sure I’ll never actually defeat. However, most importantly, I’m curious about the platforms Silksong will release on. There is one in particular that it absolutely needs to launch on perfectly, or else it risks losing a huge amount of potential fans.
Silksong Isn’t Confirmed For Steam Deck Yet
It Is Currently Listed As Unknown
Hollow Knight: Silksong has been confirmed for a number of platforms and will even be playable on Switch soon. However, one platform it hasn’t been confirmed for, at least just yet, is the Steam Deck. Currently, if you head to Silksong’s Steam store page, you’ll find that its Steam Deck Compatibility section just reads Unknown. That means that Valve hasn’t tested the game on the Steam Deck yet, meaning it can’t make a verdict.
That’s a little frustrating, especially as Silksong is playable on Xbox and other platforms. There is a silver lining, however. Silksong does have controller support confirmed, as listed on its Steam store page. Additionally, the original Hollow Knight is Steam Deck verified. It stands to reason that Team Cherry will ensure that Silksong runs smoothly on the Steam Deck, especially as there are lots of Metroidvania fans who predominantly use the platform.
If It Is Confirmed, Hopefully The Launch Is Stable
It Needs To Be The Perfect Port
If Hollow Knight: Silksong does end up getting that coveted Steam Deck verified green tick, then Team Cherry needs to make sure that it works flawlessly on the platform. There’s nothing worse than a game launching on PC and having a half-hearted Steam Deck release as well. Hollow Knight often hits the Steam charts for the top-most played games on the Steam Deck, even all of these years later.
So, Team Cherry cannot afford to mess up Silksong’s launch on Steam Deck, especially if it wants to bring in all the Metroidvania and Silksong fans. Considering how easy it is for people to refund games on Steam, it wouldn’t be surprising if many refunded the game if the Steam Deck version was broken or had too many flaws to make it worthwhile. Plenty of verified games end up being subpar experiences that don’t match their console or even fully-fledged PC counterparts, and Hollow Knight: Silksong cannot afford to be one of those games.
