Kendrick Lamar and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are still working out the details of their untitled comedy film as Paramountpulls the project from its March release schedule.
This is the second time that Paramount has pushed back the project. The untitled movie was originally supposed to come out a few months ago (July 2025), but it was moved to March 20, 2026. Now, the film no longer has a release date, and fans of the trio will have to wait quite a while longer for any updates.
A joint statement from Parker, Stone, Lamar and Paramount reassured fans that the project is still happening, but it is just taking longer than expected. “It’s true – we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie,” they explained. The project remains shrouded in mystery as a title and plot description have not yet been released at the time of this article’s publication.
According to Deadline, insiders claimed that the reason behind these delays is because of the creators’ hectic schedules. Lamar is currently on tour and will be until December 2025. Parker and Stone also have their hands full with South Park, currently at its peak.
While viewers are currently still eager to hear more about this movie, the constant delays don’t bode well. Many major films with huge names attached have suffered from constant delays. The MCU’s Black Widow (2021) faced many obstacles, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was delayed for over a year because of the lockdown.
Although a year doesn’t seem like a very long time, it was enough for previously excited fans’ interest to wane, with some even claiming that they had forgotten about Black Widow altogether. Some fans also said that the constant delays took away the excitement that once surrounded it and caused the urgency to watch it to decrease. The fact that the character died in Avengers: Endgameback in 2019 didn’t help, as many considered her story to be over and weren’t in a rush to see the prequel.
Paramount’s untitled comedy hasn’t suffered a year-long delay yet, but it is getting pretty close as 2026 is just around the corner. While having the release date getting pushed back doesn’t guarantee that a film will underperform, it certainly does raise the risks.
