A genius serial killer show, which serves as the perfect follow-up to a brilliant 100% RT horror masterpiece, is all set to return soon.
More often than not, movies and shows about serial killers follow a rather typical narrative format. Their primary hook often focuses on one defining murder that eventually becomes the killer’s “calling card.” As they progress, the story either walks through the killer’s motivations or the police procedural that slowly unravels their identity.
Some shows even take a dual approach where they simultaneously shift their focus between the criminal and the investigators trying to catch them. However, every once in a while, a serial killer franchise takes a different approach. The show in question, too, does the same and brings something incredibly unique to the horror genre.
The Creep Tapes Is An Incredible Follow-Up To The Highly Acclaimed Creep Movies
Most found-footage horror movies intend to immerse viewers in their stories and shock them with well-timed scares and twists. However, Patrick Bryce and Mark Duplass’ Creep franchise truly stands out in the genre because of its ability to be disarmingly intimate.
Like the two Creep movies, The Creep Tapes is a bare-bones found footage show that rarely relies on elaborate set pieces or supernatural gimmicks. Yet, it often catches a viewer off guard and scares the living daylights out of them by weaponizing intimacy. There is something truly human about its portrayal of its central serial killer that makes you, as a viewer, trust him.
As he targets new victims in each episode of the series, you cannot help but foresee how his targets will all eventually meet the same gruesome fate. Despite this, you also understand why his victims might have fallen into his trap and not escaped when they still had time. Put simply, the Creep TV series and the preceding movies riff on our innate desire to seek social obligation.
It shows how, even when every instinct in our body screams that something is wrong, we often prefer to be agreeable and acceptable rather than safe. Mark Duplass’ brilliant performance as the franchise’s central serial killer further elevates these feelings by making the overarching evil feel uncomfortably familiar.
The Creep Tapes Season 2 Is Expected To Be Even Better Than Its Predecessor
Compared to the original Creep movies, The Creep Tapes received more mixed reviews after season 1. However, it still managed to earn an above-average Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score of 77%. The Creep Tapes is all set to return on November 14, 2025, on Shudder, and its season 2 will likely be even better.
Like season 1, the new installment will also follow an anthology format and unfold a new snuff film from the central killer’s collection in each episode. However, it already looks more promising because it has added horror staples like David Dastmalchian, Robert Longstreet, and Katie Aselton to its roster.
