Red Dead Redemption made a splash when it originally came out, but it wasn’t until the sequel that the series took off into the stratosphere. Now, it’s one of the best-selling games of all time.
Over on Reddit, fans are debating the newest comments from leaker NateTheHate, who recently noted that there would be a Red Dead Redemption release in the next year.
Will Red Dead Redemption 2 Return In 2026?
We Could See An Enhanced Port Or Remaster
According to the leak, Red Dead Redemption 2 could return in 2026 in remastered form. This isn’t the most exciting prediction, as we know this massively best-selling game will come back at some point, but it could be earlier than we thought. Originally, according to the leaks, it was slated for release already, but allegedly, it and the Red Dead Redemption re-release were in the works at the same time.
This seems entirely plausible, but the real question is, when is it coming out? If it’s really in the works, it could be in the next year, but if it’s on the back burner, we might get it around the launch of the next console generation. Rockstar may want all eyes on GTA 6 once it hits.
Red Dead Redemption Fans Don’t Dare To Hope
A Re-Release Would Make Waves
Fans are torn on the information, with some disavowing it entirely, and others remaining somewhat hopeful. Others are wondering if the GTA 6 delays sidetracked this release at all, as Rockstar could time it between the Red Dead re-release and GTA 6‘s eventual launch. One user notes: “Guessing it’ll be 2026, since if it wasn’t they’d just do both RDR upgrades at the same time.”
Another user is adamant that it will release in 2026, explaining: “Maybe without the Switch 2 being a factor I could understand people having doubts, but this new upgrade for Red Dead 1 coming to the other consoles along with [Switch 2] might as well be a confirmation.” Someone else agrees: “The Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console of all time, you bet that Rockstar would want their latest blockbuster there. Free money.”
For reference, Red Dead Redemption 2 came out in 2018, so Rockstar has had plenty of chances to re-release this modern classic. With that in mind, others are beyond skeptical: “I have fallen for this one for years now. It’s easier to pretend it will never happen.” Another user agrees: “Hopium is back on the menu cowpokes!!”
In any case, a re-release of Red Dead Redemption 2 is an inevitability. Rockstar has too much money to gain from bringing it back out on newer platforms: I think they’re just waiting a bit longer to maximize returns, and soak up all the money they can from current platforms.
