Prepare to Say Goodbye to ‘Outlander’ in the First Series Finale Trailer

Outlander Season 8 marks the end of an era. For over ten years, the romantasy drama series has taken viewers on an emotional journey, telling the unlikely love story between Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). The beginning of the end is here, as teased by the trailer for the final season. It’s full of nostalgia and sadness as Claire and Jamie’s story nears the end, but it also hints at some surprises that fans should be prepared for. Set against the iconic Skye Boat Song, Jamie reminisces about what he and Claire have gone through to get to this point. From their first meeting to reunions in different places after separation, every sight he made of her remains imprinted in his mind.

However, the world is still not done with them, and Fraser’s Ridge is in trouble. They’ve made a home in the New World, but can they escape the shortcomings of people? The trailer hints at major trouble as their house is consumed by fire, while Young Ian (John Bell) and Rachel (Izzy Meikle-Small) share a sad moment. Lord John’s (David Berry) troubles are far from over as he finds himself staring at the barrel of a gun. Elsewhere, Bree (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) are back together. Meanwhile, an unidentified figure delivers a shocking sight to Claire and Jamie. Who is it? Given that this is Outlander, that could be anyone. The logline for the final season reads:

“As Season Eight begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.”

The World of ‘Outlander’ Lives On

Even as the mothership series prepares to wrap up, viewers are being treated to more from the Outlander world in the new spinoff, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The series, which is currently airing, tells the story of Claire and Jamie’s parents, who themselves dealt with time travel at the height of their love stories — new episodes of the spinoff release on Fridays. In tomorrow’s episode, Ellen (Harriet Slater) must fight the vicious attack launched against her character. “At the request of the Grants, Ellen undergoes a test to prove her worthiness to marry into the clan,” reads the description for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Season 1, Episode 8, “A Virtuous Woman.”

Outlander returns sometime next year. Watch the trailer above and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
