Power Rangers Redefines Zords, And It Will Blow 90s Fans’ Minds

Warning: Spoilers for Power Rangers Prime #7!The introduction of a baby Zord named TeeZee changes everything Power Rangers fans know about Zords. Readers first caught a glimpse of the baby Tyrannosaurus Rex Zord in the Power Rangers/VR Troopers 2025 Free Comic Book Day Special, and past previews of the issue caused speculation regarding this Zord’s origin twist.

Now, TeeZee makes his official series debut in Power Rangers Prime #7. 18 months earlier, before they became Rangers, the baby Zord was discovered by the Blue and Pink Rangers. Mark and Orion discovered the Zord while sneaking through the Angel Grove Natural History Museum Robotics Lab.

This issue features a six-month flashback in which they cause a sudden explosion while operating the Zord. Out of the wreckage emerges TeeZee holding a broken sword. TeeZee’s debut raises questions about how Zords work in this new Prime universe, and how they differ from Zords previously seen in the Power Rangers franchise.

TeeZee’s origins in the Free Comic Book Day Special offer context of how the future Prime Power Rangers have stowed away their Zord, keeping it in secret as a pet. Mark and Orion had found artifacts at the museum that they understood were previously used to power Rangers of the past through a connection to the unseen, mysterious Morphin Grid. They hoped that same force could help power their robot, which only mildly worked as TeeZee’s circuits are said to be unstable. They decided that until they learned how to stabilize TeeZee, they should keep him a secret.

The remainder of Power Rangers Prime #7 takes place in the present day, during which readers get a better idea of what Teezee is capable of. While the Red Prime Ranger, Lauren Shiba, is fighting a monstrous Rhino-esque creature underneath the city of Angel Grove, a powerful blast is suddenly shot at the Rhino, petrifying it. To Shiba’s surprise, the blast came from Teezee, hinting at the immense power that the baby Zord holds from within it. One has to wonder just how powerful that blast could be if TeeZee were stabilized.

TeeZee Is a Zord That’s Born Rather Than Created

Past Zords Have Been Created by the Hands of the Power Rangers Themselves

What separates Teezee from other Zords in Power Rangers history is that most Zords are created by the Rangers themselves, or at least their scientists and mentors. In the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Zords were created by Ninjor, the same warrior who created the Power Coins. The following iteration, Zeo, saw former Blue Ranger Billy Cranston create the Zeo Zords. In contrast, the Turbo Zords and powers are created by Zordon and Alpha to combat the forces of Divatox.

There are several examples of Zords being created by someone else throughout the franchise because, more often than not, that’s typically the theme of Power Rangers.Prime effectively breaks the age-old tradition of Zord creation by discovering a Zord that, judging from its baby exterior, was born as such and is expected to grow into something much larger, just like any other creature. Prime regularly breaks franchise rules in favor of changing the status quo, and this is just the comic book series’ latest example.

Both the Free Comic Book Day Special andPower Rangers Prime #7 hint that TeeZee may become stronger in due time. In the Special, it is alluded that Mark and Orion tried to use the Morphin Grid to power up their robot, but to no avail. Keep in mind that this took place before they became Power Rangers themselves. Therefore, they attempted to work with forces greater than themselves before they fully understood what they were dealing with. Ideally, if they try again as Rangers, they might find better results.

Not to mention, in theory, there have to be more Zord babies out there, one for each Ranger. Since it is a baby, although its biology remains a mystery, one would assume that Teezee is expected to grow just like any other infant. If so, then Teezee is eventually destined to become strong and large enough to form the universe’s Megazord. Power Rangers Prime #7 only offers a taste of what Teezee is capable of now, but in the future, once it unites with its fellow Zord brethren, it is bound to become stronger than ever.
