PlayStation Plus has added some exciting new games this month, but it’s unfortunately losing a few great ones on January 20. Along with the rotating selection of monthly titles, the semi-permanent Extra and Premium catalog also sees a slower rate of turnover. The games about to depart have all been part of the Extra and Premium catalog for a year or more, making their departure especially tragic.
On January 20, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Monopoly Plus, Sayonara Wild Hearts, andSD Gundam Battle Alliance will all leave PlayStation Plus, as originally covered by PSPlusUpdates on Reddit. All four games are currently available with either an Extra or Premium subscription, and Like a Dragon Gaiden, Sayonara Wild Hearts, and SD Gundam Battle Alliance all offer Platinum trophies for completionists.
PlayStation Plus Is Losing These Four Games
Each of the games leaving PS Plus offers a radically different experience, and most subscribers could probably have fun with at least one of them. Like a Dragon Gaiden is a compelling coda to the original Kiryu saga of the Yakuza series, which has established a fantastic name for itself as a standard-bearer for crime games.
Monopoly Plus is, well, Monopoly with some tweaks. Unlike Monopoly Go, it’s a proper Monopoly experience without any daily energy limits or gambling elements, so fans of the board game could easily have fun playing through a game or two before it leaves PlayStation Plus.
Sayonara Wild Hearts comes courtesy of the fantastic indie developers at Simogo, more recently responsible for the masterful Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. The stylish rhythm action experience is only a couple of hours long, so there’s no good reason not to give this one a try in the next few days.
Speeding through SD Gundam Battle Alliance won’t be quite as easy, as this cartoonish mech game is a full-fledged RPG experience. You can play this one multiplayer, which might be easier while it’s a part of the PlayStation Plus catalog.
Enjoy Them While You Can
Departures are never fun, and seeing great games like Sayonara Wild Hearts leave the service can be especially painful. In this case, the blow is significantly softened by the lineup of January games revealed recently. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is taking Like a Dragon Gaiden‘s place as a franchise representative, for example, and Resident Evil Village is joining the Extra catalog ahead of Resident EvilRequiem‘s release.
These new titles will arrive on the same day that the others depart, so if you don’t end up with any time to game this weekend, you’ll at least have a nice consolation prize from PlayStation Plus next week.
