The highly anticipated live-action God of War series for Prime Video has found its Spartan, with Ryan Hurst stepping into the iconic role of Kratos. The casting has garnered excitement, and now Christopher Judge, the man whose voice defined the Ghost of Sparta for a new generation, has commented on it.
Christopher Judge on why Ryan Hurst ‘is a magnificent choice’ for Kratos
For fans, Christopher Judge is Kratos. Having taken over the role for the acclaimed 2018 soft reboot and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok, Judge’s gravelly, emotionally resonant voice acting is inextricably linked to the character’s modern identity. His reaction to Hurst’s casting has been taken as a meaningful passing of the Leviathan Axe.
In a video from Fan Expo in New Orleans, Judge gave his support to the new live-action god. “All I wanted was for whoever was cast as Kratos was that they love, cherish, and respect Kratos as much as we all do,” Judge stated. “And with Ryan Hurst, they have done that. It’s a magnificent choice.”
Judge spoke about qualities that go beyond mere acting chops. He praised Hurst as “not only a great actor, but a great person and a gamer who actually played God of War since its inception.”
This insider knowledge and genuine fan appreciation are seen as crucial for embodying such a beloved and complex character. Judge concluded his thoughts with a direct message of support: “So, kudos. You’ve got a great live-action Kratos. Kill it, Ryan.”
Prime Video’s God of War has a two-season order. It will follow the story of recent games, focusing on the journey of Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they navigate the Norse realms. Battlestar Galactica veteran Ronald D. Moore is the showrunner, and Fallout’s Frederick E.O. Toye is directing the first two episodes.
The God of War series does not yet have a release date. However, with Christopher Judge’s support and Ryan Hurst stepping into the role of Kratos, the adaptation is already highly anticipated.
