Warning! This article contains spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2’s ending teases the big war to come, the Titans’ emergence, and another subject of the fated Great Prophecy. The ending of Percy Jackson season 1 teased more to come, with season 2 doing the same, only on a much bigger scale.
The reviews for Percy Jackson season 2 have praised the show for its expanded scope, deeper complexity, and sense of maturity. The finale of season 2 delivers all of this, thanks to a siege on Camp Half-Blood, betrayals, godly cameos, and the rise of a new, powerful demigod.
Although there have been several significant book changes in Percy Jackson season 2, the overall spirit and narrative of the book series have remained intact. This continued in Percy Jackson season 2’s ending, allowing the show to set up an exciting third installment.
Percy Jackson Season 2’s Quest Explained: Was Camp Half-Blood Saved?
Percy Jackson‘s Oracle of Delphi is a big part of the mythical world, often providing prophecies and quests to the demigods of Camp Half-Blood. In Percy Jackson season 2, the recipient of the latest prophecy was Clarisse, the daughter of Ares. Clarisse’s quest was to retrieve the Golden Fleece and use its healing powers to renew Camp Half-Blood’s magical shield.
Percy Jackson season 2’s ending focuses on Clarisse’s attempts, alongside Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Tyson, to get the Fleece to Thalia’s tree, thus restoring the barrier that threatens to fall. After sailing a ship with warriors of bone, finding the Fleece and making it her own, fearing for her life entombed within stone by Polyphemus, and flying home alone, Clarisse was in the final stretch.
With the help of her newfound friends, Clarisse uses her spear to pin the Golden Fleece to Thalia’s tree. This stops Luke’s invasion by strengthening Camp Half-Blood’s barriers, saving everyone inside. However, as the title of Percy Jackson season 2’s final episode states, the Golden Fleece’s magic works too well.
Percy Jackson Season 2 Introduces A Major New Character
After the Fleece makes contact with Thalia’s tree, it comes back to life, both figuratively and literally. The tree is renewed, becoming greener and more full of life, though not without allowing Thalia’s human body to emerge. Thalia begins where she left off, screaming “Never!” and blasting her surroundings with lightning, being a daughter of Zeus.
As Percy Jackson season 2 ends, Thalia awakens years after she supposedly died to find her younger adopted sibling, Annabeth, to be much older, and her old friend Luke on the other side of a brewing war. Beyond the second book in the Percy Jackson series, Thalia becomes a central character in the narrative.
This is largely because of the Great Prophecy. This prophecy was teased throughout Percy Jackson season 2 and states that a half-blood of the eldest gods, Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades, will reach 16 and face a choice that could destroy Olympus. At the beginning of season 2, Percy was the only child of the big three alive. Now, thanks to Percy Jackson season 2’s ending, Thalia is another.
This sets up how important Thalia becomes beyond Percy Jackson season 2’s ending. Not only could she be the subject of the Great Prophecy, but she is also a friend to Luke, who hopes to rally her to Kronos’ cause.
Given the reveal that Zeus forcefully turned Thalia into a tree in Percy Jackson season 2’s ending, season 3 will undoubtedly explore her fractured relationship with the gods and what this could mean for the fate of Olympus.
Percy Jackson Season 2’s Poseidon & Zeus Cameos Explained
In Percy Jackson season 2’s ending, Poseidon and Zeus appear, just as they did in season 1. Poseidon’s appearance comes after Percy is struck by Thalia’s lightning. The god of the sea appears in Percy’s dreams, warning him of the war to come and insisting that the Titans have begun to escape their respective prisons.
To better prepare his forces for war, Poseidon recruits Tyson to his forges before telling Percy not to underestimate himself in the coming conflict. Zeus’ appearance is different, as it comes via a flashback. Chiron tells Percy, Annabeth, and Grover what really happened to Thalia, revealing that Zeus wished to recruit his daughter.
Zeus implored Thalia to take on the burden of the Great Prophecy and be his warrior against the Titans. Thalia angrily declined, forcing Zeus to turn her into the tree that protects Camp Half-Blood. Zeus made this decision as he feared Thalia; if she lived on in hatred of the gods, she could make the fated choice that might destroy Olympus.
This flashback illustrates the main themes at the heart of Percy Jackson. The gods are not perfect and make morally questionable choices, but they are better than the Titan alternative. Via Thalia, this flashback, and Zeus’ cameo in Percy Jackson season 2’s ending, the moral conflict to come that is embodied by characters like Luke and Percy is further set up.
Percy Jackson Season 2’s Post-Credit Scenes Explained
Midway through the credits of Percy Jackson season 2’s finale, two scenes are found. The final scene returns to Circe’s island, with the goddess continuing her deception of heroes by immortalizing Annabeth and Percy as two who have passed the trial of the Sirens. The first post-credit scene, though, is much more exciting.
The scene teases Percy Jackson season 3’s story by showing Annabeth and Percy at a school dance. This is accompanied by the confirmation that season 3 will be released in 2026. The scene, rather than a cut-together trailer, is simply lifted from the opening pages of The Titan’s Curse, the third book in the series that Percy Jackson season 3 will be based on.
In the opening of that book, and season 3, Percy and Annabeth visit a school where two powerful demigods have been found by Grover. The dance shown in the post-credit scene of Percy Jackson season 3 takes place in that school, with Percy and Annabeth blending in as they search for the demigods before attempting to escort them back to Camp Half-Blood.
How Percy Jackson Season 2’s Ending Sets Up Season 3
Aside from this post-credit scene, Percy Jackson season 2’s ending sets up a lot for season 3. Clarisse is shown to be working directly with Chiron to train the demigods of Camp Half-Blood for the war ahead. Luke, after Thalia’s revival, escapes and continues working towards Kronos’ revival.
Poseidon confirms that he and the other gods are already at war with some of the Titans’ allies, with several of the Titans themselves having already escaped their imprisonment. Finally, the biggest tease in Percy Jackson season 2’s ending is Thalia’s revival, which sets up her massive role in season 3 and the further exploration of the show’s Great Prophecy.
