Apple TV+ are known for their consistent production of high-quality television, with the likes of Seth Rogen’s The Studio, Cate Blanchett‘s Disclaimer, Severance, and more dominating TV discourse in recent memory. Another such high-profile series to dominate our latest viewing habits is the Jon Hamm-led Your Friends & Neighbors, which has held the top spot on the streamer’s ranking of most-watched series for quite some time.
That is until the arrival of Owen Wilson’s feel-good series, Stick, which is being hailed by some as the next Ted Lasso, with its dedication to telling a touching human tale through sport. As of June 9, 2025, Stick has officially beaten its fiercest competition to become the most-watched show on Apple TV+, even in light of the recent news that Season 2 of Your Friends & Neighbors is now in production. Other shows left floundering in the bunker while Stick claims a hole-in-one are Murderbot starring Alexander Skarsgård, the aforementioned Ted Lasso, comedy seriesShrinking, French culinary tale Carême, and more.
Currently boasting a strong 79% critics’ and audience rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Stick has received favorable reviews from many, including Collider’s own Nate Richard, who said in his 7/10 review of the series, “This isn’t the golf equivalent of Wedding Crashers; in fact, the series is more often at risk of playing things a little too safely, but the emotional beats are so effective that it’s easy to forgive it.” Richard continued, “Stick may not be the next Ted Lasso that Apple TV+ wants it to be, but its charming cast and strong emotional core make it a satisfying watch overall.”
