HBO knows exactly what Harry Potter fans are worried about — and they’re already working to prevent it. As filming on Season 1 of the upcoming Harry Potter series continues in the U.K., CEO Casey Bloys has confirmed that the network is committed to keeping the time between Seasons 1 and 2 as short as possible. The reason? The ages of the young cast… and the sanity of fans everywhere. Speaking during HBO’s content showcase in New York, Bloys addressed the fear of years-long production gaps — something Potter fans have been dreading ever since the new series was announced.
“I don’t know if it’s going to be like, stop shooting Season 1 on Friday and start Season 2 on Monday — there’ll be a break in there. But we’re going to do whatever we can to not have a huge gap for the kids, obviously, but also for viewers.”
It’s a practical concern. The story begins with Harry, Ron, and Hermione at age 11 — meaning long waits between seasons could cause the cast to age out of their characters too quickly. The production team has tried to get ahead of that issue: Bloys confirmed that writing on Season 2 is already underway, even though Season 1 only began filming in July. The series is slated to premiere in 2027, with the long-term plan being a decade-long adaptation that covers all seven books.
Filming is currently happening at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden — home to the original films — and Rowling herself made her first set visit this week. Her presence as an executive producer has drawn controversy due to her public comments on transgender issues, but HBO is standing firm. Bloys recently reiterated that the show will only benefit from her involvement and that “she has a right to express her personal views.”
