Fallout is really enjoying its time in the sun right now. While folks reminisce about their favorite entries, the TV show is currently doing exceptionally well and is keeping the series in the zeitgeist.
Speaking to Game Informer, Bethesda boss Todd Howard had a lot to say about the Fallout series, while confirming another entry. We knew it was happening at some point, but it’s nice to get official confirmation all the same, as well as the studio’s mindset while developing The Elder Scrolls 6 in tandem.
A New Fallout Was Inevitable

Amid comments on the series’ history, originally crafted by Interplay, and discussion of the current state of the TV show, Howard explained that Fallout is still very much a priority for the company, despite Fallout 4 coming out over 10 years ago. Howard uses Fallout 76 as an example of Fallout‘s never-ending development, in light of its fumblings at launch.
But the real gem that Howard drops is what comes next: “Fallout as a franchise is the one that we’re still doing the most work in above anything. Now, the majority of our internal team is on Elder Scrolls VI. We are doing other things with Fallout that we haven’t announced, and there’ll come a time for that.”
While it may seem innocuous, the key here is that Fallout is what Bethesda is “still doing the most work in.” While the team is laser-focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, there is still a separate focus on Fallout, including “other things” that will be announced at a later date. Given how little we’ve heard about TES 6 in all the years since its been announced, it makes sense that it would be the immediate priority.
Bethesda has revealed in the past that the upcoming game will tie into the TV show in some way (either by continuing or using its lore), and while that link remains to be seen, this is confirmation that something is actively in development.

This is as official as it can get, straight from the mouth of Bethesda. We know Fallout is a massive focus for the company, given how ubiquitous the franchise is and how well the games still sell, but knowing that there are “other things” in the works (plural) is something else.
As we wait to see what those “things” entail for Fallout, there are plenty of mods for existing games to play, and the second season of the TV show isn’t done yet. It may even have massive lore implications for the franchise that further carry into the games, if the sophomore season follows the same blueprint as the first.
