Netflix’s Star Search instantly dominates streaming, and more episodes are coming. The iconic show originally aired in syndication from 1983 to 1995, featuring contestants competing in several genres of entertainment – including music, dance, and comedy – hosted by Ed McMahon with Naomi Judd and several others serving as judges.
Following the success of American Idol, Arsenio Hall hosted a revival of Star Search that aired on CBS from 2003 to 2004, featuring a four-judge panel consisting of Ben Stein, Naomi Judd, Ahmet Zappa, and a rotating celebrity guest.
Netflix’s reboot of Star Search sees Anthony Anderson acting as host with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jelly Roll, and Chrissy Teigen taking on judging duties. Now, after premiering live on January 20,Star Search has jumped directly to No. 2 on Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows in the United States for today, January 22.
It ranks below His & Hers at No. 1 and above Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, Southland, 11.22.63, Marcello Hernández: American Boy, Sandokan, Queer Eye, WWE: Unreal, and Stranger Things. New episodes of Netflix’s Star Search will live Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:00 PM ET, with the first season consisting of six episodes.
The original Star Search played a key role in launching the careers of some of the entertainment industry’s biggest stars, including Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Dave Chappelle. Though they are now global superstars, each of them appeared as rising talent during the show’s original run from 1983 to 1995.
Now, the iconic competition series is making a comeback in a bold new format– streaming live on Netflix and introducing real-time audience voting for the very first time. One of the most significant changes is the addition of live fan participation, allowing viewers to vote as the show airs and directly influence which contestants move forward in Netflix’s Star Search.
