Hytale‘s resemblance to Minecraftis a major selling point, but the two games are different in all the details. While Minecraft focuses on the survival sandbox first and foremost, Hytale adds a lot more RPG elements, making it a compelling option for those looking for a major shake-up. Surprisingly, it’s apparently possible to overlook these differences and smash the games together for crossplay.
SSquadTeam shared a look atHytale and Minecraft crossplay in a Reddit post, showing the same users in the same positions loaded across Minecraft‘s Bedrock version, Hytale, and Minecraft‘s Java version. They followed up with an X post of gameplay footage, placing blocks that spawn in both clients with the same input. The functionality is currently a work in progress, and SSquadTeam plans to make it open source once things are further along.
Minecraft And Hytale Collide
Even in its early stages, the Hytale and Minecraft crossplay project is already impressive. At the moment, the Hytale server has authority, so only Hytale players can take full advantage of the features, ranging from placing blocks to damaging players with proper knockback and animations. Minecraft players can see the Hytale players, but they’re not capable of shaping the world in the same way.
This isn’t SSquadTeam’s first impressive Hytale project, as they hit the ground running after the game’s recent launch. In the past few days, they also shared both Minecraft 0.3.0 and a fully functioning Windows 95 system running inside Hytale. With the rate of progress so far, SSquadTeam is definitely the Hytale modder to watch.
This Mod Is Unbelievable
This isn’t the first example of a functional mod tying Minecraft to another game client, as a Minecraft x Roblox crossplay mod debuted in 2024. In that case, both games had been around for well over a decade, giving the modding scene more than enough time to mature. It’s surprising to see Hytale modding advance so quickly — the game isn’t even out on PlayStation or Xbox yet — but it’s great news for fans of the new sandbox game, and it could re-unite early Hytale adopters with friends who are sticking to Minecraftfor the time being.
Hytale came dangerously close to not releasing at all, as the project was officially canceled by Riot Games in 2025 before its creator re-purchased the rights and launched it into early access. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but even if the development team takes a while to bring the game up to speed, modders might have it covered.
