Magic: The Gathering’s next major release will be Edge of Eternities, a science fantasy set that takes place in a brand-new part of Magic’s multiverse. Edge of Eternities will be the last set this year that takes place within Magic‘s canon, with the remaining two sets being Universes Beyond crossover sets. Although we haven’t seen too many cards from Edge of Eternities yet, what we have seen has given players plenty to be excited about.
Edge of Eternities is introducing the new Spacecraft card type, a special type of artifact that can become a powerful creature. Its story is also being written by author Seth Dickinson, who is responsible for writing two of the best Destiny and Destiny 2 expansions: The Taken King and Forsaken. With some Final Fantasy fans likely just starting their Magic: The Gathering journey, Edge of Eternities will likely be a good chance for them to see what the game has to offer in terms of original creative ideas.
Edge Of Eternities Release Date And Prerelease Details
Edge Of Eternities releases August 1, 2025
Edge of Eternities will be released on August 1, 2025. As is common for Magic: The Gathering sets, prerelease events for this set will be held during the week leading up to the full release, starting on July 25, 2025. You can purchase some sealed products from stores during this prerelease window, but stores won’t be selling individual cards or the full range of Edge of Eternities products until the official release date. Cards from the set are also not legal for constructed play until the set is released.

Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond series has undergone a major change that finally brings it in line with the mainline game.
The prerelease events for Edge of Eternities look a little different from previous Magic: The Gathering sets. While there will still be the typical Sealed events where players construct a deck using the contents of a Prerelease Pack, this set will also be introducing a new prerelease tradition. During the week leading up to the set’s release, players can now also participate in an official Commander Box League event.
A Commander Box League event, or, as some players call it, Commander Boxing, is when you use an entire booster box of a Magic set to build a Commander deck. If you are already planning to buy a booster box of Edge of Eternities during the prerelease window, this event can be a fun way to open it with other Magic players, and participate in some casual games. This is just one of several ways that Magic: The Gathering is expanding its play events in the near future, as there are also plans for Two-Headed Giant Commander events and more.
Edge Of Eternities Products And Pricing
Edge Of Eternities Will Have Boosters, Commander Decks, And A Bundle
Like with most Magic sets, the main product for Edge of Eternities is booster packs. There are the draftable Play Boosters, which have an MSRP of $5.49 each, and premium Collector Boosters which have an MSRP of $24.99 each. Collector Boosters are the only place you’ll be able to find certain special art treatments, and they also have a higher percentage of rare cards per pack.
Edge of Eternities will also be getting two new preconstructed Commander decks. The Counter Intelligence deck is a blue, red, and white (Jeskai) deck built around the new Station mechanic and proliferating counters. The World Shaper deck is a black, red, and green (Jund) deck that focuses on sacrificing your own permanents, including lands, to gain an advantage. Each Commander deck has an MSRP of $44.99.

Magic: The Gathering has revealed first details of its upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man crossover set, including its release date, bundles, and new cards.
There will also be a Bundle for Edge of Eternities, which includes nine Play Boosters, a foil promo card, and 30 basic lands. It also comes with a themed box to store your cards in, and a Spindown die for tracking your life during games. The Bundle has an MSRP of $53.99, meaning it is only slightly more expensive than just buying nine boosters, and you get all these additional items.
It’s worth noting that, while Wizards of the Coast has brought back MSRP for their products, stores don’t necessarily abide by this. As we are currently seeing with Magic: The Gathering‘s Final Fantasy crossover, many stores are selling well above this suggested price point. I recently attended MagicCon Las Vegas where Final Fantasy Collector Boosters were mostly being sold by vendors for around $100 each, despite having a $37.99 MSRP.

Edge Of Eternities Takes Place In A New Science Fantasy Setting
Edge of Eternities is a unique set when it comes to Magic: The Gathering‘s narrative aspects. Players will be introduced to a new science-fantasy setting known as The Edge, which is largely separate from the main Magic multiverse. While we will be seeing at least one recurring character, Tezzeret, the setting has largely been designed to stand on its own, according to Senior Story Lead Roy Graham.

Magic‘s story team in collaboration with Seth Dickinson have delivered quite an in-depth look at this new setting through the set’s episodes, available on Magic‘s website, and the Planeswalker’s Guide. There is a lot of dense world-building, which sci-fi fans will appreciate, and should assuage any fears fans have of this setting being shallow or gimmicky. It’s exciting to see this level of detail being given to a new Magic setting, and The Edge could be an interesting location for future sets if it proves popular with players.

Edge Of Eternities Is Introducing A New Mechanic, Old Favorites, And Exciting Art Treatments
Between unique art treatments, a new card type, and some meaningful reprints, Edge of Eternities is shaping up to be a very exciting set. Starting with the mechanical side of things, Spacecraft and the new Station mechanic are an interesting new addition to Magic. Spacecraft are similar to vehicles, but they remain creatures once they’ve been powered up, which can make them a more consistent threat later on. This also means a high attack stats to mana value ratio, like the previewed Seriema, which only costs three mana but has five power and toughness.

Magic: The Gathering debuted the first preview card from its upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set, and there’s a lot to be excited about.
Shock lands are also back in Edge of Eternities. These are two-color lands that can enter untapped so long as you pay two life. These can create much quicker and more efficient mana bases, so their return to Standard will be a big shakeup to competitive play. This will unfortunately mean they could spike in price again, so you may want to grab some of the old versions now before they’re Standard legal.
This set also introduces some unique art treatments, like the Stellar Sights cards, and borderless Celestial basic lands, both of which push the name of the card to the bottom, allowing the artwork to better communicate the wide-open spaces in The Edge. There are also borderless Triumphant cards that emulate retro-futuristic space posters. Edge of Eternities is also introducing what is perhaps Magic: The Gathering‘s most distinct art treatment in the form of the Sothera Singularity foil. Pictures don’t really do the card justice, so I advise checking out MagicCon Vegas’ Preview Panel to see it in all its glory.
