It’s fans’ Good Fortuneto see Keanu Reeves on the big screen this year in Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut. The comedy which also stars Seth Rogen recently made its debut at TIFF, garnering high praises. Though Reeves is loved for his action roles, he has done several movies that go straight to your heart, and this one seems to have won over critics.
Good Fortune has received a divine Rotten Tomatoes score by the critics, who bestowed 79 percent to the movie. Along with Reeves and Rogen, Ansari also stars alongside Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh. The movie’s trailer was hilarious as it set up the ride audiences is in for, and given the cast is packed with compelling performers, the audience score could go even higher, once it comes out in October.
What’s ‘Good Fortune’ About?
The story premise is really simple: Reeves plays a budget guardian angel of Arj (Ansari), a struggling gig worker and ends up meddling with his and his boss Jeff’s (Rogen) life to hilarious consequences. In Collider’s Exclusive Preview, Ansari explains the idea, “As far as the idea – films that deal with issues about economic depression are a staple from Grapes of Wrath to Trading Places. Given what’s happening these days, especially with all the modern elements involved, it felt ripe for us to do a film about today. I hope we pulled it off. I think we did?” He also spoke about getting the dream cast, explaining,
“What a dream cast, right? I remember the first scene we filmed with Keanu and Seth eating burgers – it was the first time Keanu’s angel character had ever had food. And it felt iconic seeing those two in a diner booth. They’re such stars, and it felt like a killer combo to have them in a two-shot together. And then we shoot the scene, and they’re improvising, I’m throwing lines out at Keanu – and he’s saying them and this is KEANU REEVES! I couldn’t believe it.
The movie cast Reeves as Gabriel, Ansari as Arj, Rogen as Jeff. Further, Oh plays another angel, Martha, while Plamer plays Arj’s colleague, Elena. Per the initial reviews, the movie is a fun, light-hearted watch that will shine a light on the lives of gig workers and also make you think.
