Expedition Unknown and its sister show, Expedition Files, are embarking on another adventure this fall. Both series are set to return to Discovery with new seasons, and Collider has an exclusive look at the new trailers for both of them. Expedition Unknown and Expedition Files will premiere their new seasons on Wednesday, November 5, exclusively on Discovery.
The Expedition Unknown teaser opens with host Josh Gates, who’s going to spend this season tracking down the mysteries and legends that fascinated him as a child. We see him taking a chilly plunge, a run through the jungle, and a fateful trip into the catacombs beneath Egypt’s pyramids. He’s also set to team up with network colleague Parker Schnabel, of Gold Rush. The trailer for Expedition Files, meanwhile, runs down a litany of historical mysteries and the purported truth behind them: Was King Solomon’s gold actually copper? Did the Salem Witch Trials stem from teenage drama? And is the fabled Amber Room, looted from the Soviet Union during World War II, at the bottom of the ocean? You’ll have to tune into Discovery for the answers this fall.
What’s Happening on ‘Expedition Unknown’ This Season?
The premiere will kick off a two-part special investigation of the Great Pyramid of Giza, as Gates attempts to replicate the construction of the sole surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, and uses new 3D mapping techniques to explore the hidden depths of the iconic structure. He’s teaming with Gold Rush‘s Schnabel to investigate a Wild West stagecoach heist, diving into the Baltic Sea to find a sunken German U-boat, embarking on a real-life Gooniestreasure hunt in Oregon, and seeking out Cornelius Vanderbilt‘s lost steamship in the jungles of Nicaragua.
The premiere of Expedition Files promises to be an explosive one, as Gates tracks down a new theory about the disappearance of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa. He’s also investigating another less famous disappearance: German inventor Rudolf Diesel, who seemingly plunged to his death from an ocean liner in 1913. And last but not least, he’s covering one of the most famous historical mysteries of all: the search for the Holy Grail. The new season will also take a look at Bigfoot, the crash of the Hindenburg, World War I seductress/spy Mata Hari, and the death of Cleopatra.
Expedition Unknown and Expedition Files will premiere their new seasons on Wednesday, November 5, on Discovery. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
