Even as Jared Leto deals with the disappointing box office results of his latest tent pole, Tron: Ares, one of his more recent movies is all set to debut on a new streaming platform beginning next month. Released in 2021, The Little Things was headlined by Leto’s fellow Oscar-winners Denzel Washington and Rami Malek, who played two detectives trying to catch a serial killer. Originally developed in 1993 by director John Lee Hancock, the movie unsurprisingly shared several similarities with David Fincher‘s classic neo-noir hit Se7en.
The Little Thingswas released day-and-date on the HBO Max streaming platform in 2021, as a part of Warner Bros. controversial release strategy that year, which saw each title on its slate being released on home video in a bid to boost subscriptions. The decision caused director Christopher Nolan to sever ties with the studio, even though his own movie, Tenet, escaped unscathed in 2020. Other titles that were bunched into this category were Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, Godzilla vs. Kong, The Matrix Resurrections,Dune, and more.
The Little Thingswill debut on Netflix in November, along with several other Warner Bros. movies, such as Wonka, Don’t Worry Darling, Elvis, In the Heights, and Tenet. The movie made $30 million in its limited box office run, recovering its reported budget of $30 million. It was said, however, that the studio had to cough up an absurd amount to buy Washington out of his back-end deal to compensate him for the day-and-date release. Variety reported that the Oscar-winner earned $40 million for the project.
Jared Leto’s ‘Tron: Ares’ Hasn’t Recovered Its Massive Budget
Leto’s performance was, as expected, rather divisive. In his post-Oscar years, the actor has increased his output, but has also been experimenting with his range. He delivered a similarly memorable performance in Ridley Scott‘s House of Gucci, which made around $150 million worldwide. His superhero movie Morbius, on the other hand, opened to terrible reviews and tanked at the box office. More recently, Tron: Ares has been struggling commercially, having recently passed the $100 million mark worldwide but still miles away from recovering its reported budget of $180 million.
