The DC Universe gets another win for 2025, following the succesful run of James Gunn’s Superman movie. As DC Studios brought the Man of Steel back to the big screen this summer, Christopher Smith also made his return, with the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” finally explaining his show’s place in the new franchise.
Peacemaker season 2 came to an end with episode 8 on October 9, 2025, and has landed DC Studios a major victory, as The Hollywood Reporterreveals that the HBO Max drama made its way onto the Nielsen streaming charts. For the week of October 6 to October 12, 2025, the John Cena-starring series made it into Nielsen’s list for Top 10 Original Series.

In ScreenRant’sPeacemaker episode 8 review by Felipe Rangel, the season 2 finale was a mixed bag, while also showing great promise for the rest of Gunn’s DCU plans. The latest season currently sits with 94% in the Critics’ Score while having 78% in the Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In an interview with Deadline on October 10, 2025, Gunn spoke on the fate of Peacemaker season 3, as there are no plans for another season for the time being. He stated, “No, this is about the wider DCU and other stories in which this will play out right now. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU. It’s an important character.”
Even though Peacemaker may not continue, the characters have other places in the franchise where they can show up. While still in development, a Waller TV show, focused on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, is in the works from Jeremy Carver and Christal Henry.
It’s unknown yet whether or not any Peacemaker characters will be in Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow movie, as principal photography is set to begin in 2026. But the Peacemaker season 2 ending definitely leaves the door open for various plot points to continue in the 2027 entry.
The next installment in the DCU will be Lanterns on HBO, as Warner Bros. recently confirmed that the superhero drama is eying an early 2026 premiere. For big screen releases, Supergirl will be flying into theaters on June 26, 2026, while Clayface is slated for September 11.
