James Gunn recently revealed whether David Corenswet’s Superman and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl had a cameo appearance in PeacemakerSeason 2. The DC superhero series features John Cena as the main lead, playing the role of Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker. Its second season came out on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. With the new season being canon in the DCU, it has some things altered by Gunn.
Peacemaker’s Superman and Supergirl cameos weren’t played by David Corenswet and Milly Alcock
James Gunn recently disclosed whether it was David Corenswet and Milly Alcock’s Superman and Supergirl, respectively, in Episode 1 of Peacemaker Season 2, and if they shot for it.
At the end of Peacemaker Season 1, Cena’s Smith comes face-to-face with the Justice League members, including Aquaman, The Flash, and silhouetted versions of Superman and Wonder Woman. However, the recap shown in the latest season’s premiere episode has a slight difference. In this recap scene, Justice League has been replaced with the Justice Gang, which made its first appearance in the Superman movie.
In the new version shown in Season 2, Smith encountered Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific, and silhouetted versions of Superman and Supergirl. Thus, signalling that Zack Snyder’s SnyderVerse has officially ended.
Gunn was asked by Brandon Davis if Alcock and Corenswet actually filmed for their Supergirl and Superman cameos in that scene. He shared, “No, I used plates…Nobody was in the shot. I used plates of everybody. So, I reshot, you know, we used plates from the first season. I shot Guy and Hawkgirl by themselves. So, it was just a bunch of magic.”
Davis then asked Gunn about his experience filming the recap sequence, to which the latter stated, “Well, I always knew that had to be the case. I always knew that the one thing that was really the hanging chad from Season 1 that doesn’t fit in with the DCU is Justice League.” He added, “I had to do something about it, and I handled it in the most simple way I possibly could, that wasn’t too expensive.”
The show’s next episode is scheduled for August 28, 2025.
