Warning: spoilers for The Witcher season 4.
The Witcher is back with its fourth season, and among the many surprises in it is Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) finally showing her true power. Despite its popularity, The Witcher was facing some huge challenges in its fourth season thanks to Henry Cavill’s departure. Season 4 is Liam Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt of Rivia, and though all eyes are on him, this season covers some exciting storylines.
Set after the Thanedd Coup, as seen in season 3, The Witcher season 4 sees Geralt, Jaskier, and Milva setting out to find and rescue Ciri. The Cintran Princess had to run away from Vilgefortz during the coup, after which she relinquished her powers and was later rescued by the Rats, joining their group in season 4.
Meanwhile, Yennefer is gathering the surviving sorceresses and other allies to confront Vilgefortz and his followers, in hopes of finding out where Ciri is – and thanks to this, The Witcher season 4 finally shows how powerful Yennefer really is.
Yennefer Finally Showed Her True Power In The Witcher Season 4’s Battle Of Montecalvo
The Thanedd Coup revealed many dark truths in the world of Netflix’s The Witcher, and various characters learned that they had been betrayed, used, and lied to. Yennefer offered a community to the surviving sorceresses and mages, including those she used to have problems with, such as Fringilla, Francesca, and Phillippa.
The latter let Yennefer and the rest stay at the castle of Montecalvo, in Redania, where they all came up with a plan of attack and defense as they lured Vilgefortz in. Unfortunately, Vilgefortz and his followers were too powerful and aggressive, and so a battle was unleashed in Montecalvo between Vilgefortz and his people, and Yennefer, the sorceress, the novices, some witchers, and other allies.
Although Yennefer had already shown her powers in the previous seasons, she had been very contained. Even during a key event like the Battle of Sodden in season 1, where Yennefer used fire magic, she was contained, but in season 4’s battle of Montecalvo, she unleashed her full power to protect her fellow sorceresses and other allies.
Yennefer channels all her anger, desperation, and sadness into her chaos to battle Vilgefortz’s henchmen and the mage himself, showing that she’s a lot more powerful and capable than everyone believes. Unfortunately, Yennefer’s heart gets in the way, leading to Vilgefortz’s escape.
How Yennefer’s Powers In The Witcher Season 4 Set Up Her Season 5 Arc
Yennefer unleashing her full power in The Witcher season 4 shows how far she’s willing to go for her daughter. The Witcher season 4 ends with Yennefer officially forming the Lodge of Sorceresses, as they prepare for what will hopefully be the final battle against Vilgefortz. Although this gives some hope for Yennefer’s future, she’s about to face some huge challenges.
The battle against Vilgefortz, the White Flame, and whatever threat is thrown her way in The Witcher season 5 won’t be easy, but Yennefer proved in Montecalvo that she’s capable of channeling her chaos in truly powerful ways. The Witcher season 4 finally did justice to this part of Yennefer, and hopefully, she will continue to show her power in the final season.
