“He’s The New Andrew Garfield”: Marvel Fans React To Daredevil Actor Saying He’s Not In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Marvel Daredevil actor, Charlie Cox, denies being in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but MCU fans aren’t buying it. Certainly, it wouldn’t be the first time a Marvel actor has been directed by the studio to deny being involved with an MCU movie. Andrew Garfield spent much of the year leading up to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home saying he wasn’t in it, only to appear in the film.

Garfield’s repeated denials that he was in No Way Home have become infamous among Marvel fans, who often point to the Peter Parker actor when another star of the franchise says they aren’t in an upcoming movie or TV show. MCU fans are a little dubious of actors’ denials, especially when there seems to be so much evidence to contradict their claims.

In the case of Cox, the actor was spotted in London at a time when Spider-Man: Brand New Day was filming there, which could mean nothing — or it could mean something. After all, Garfield was seen by a delivery driver near the set of No Way Home while that movie was filming. However, Cox recently vehemently denied he’s in Brand New Day.

In an interview with Brandon Davis of Phase Hero, Cox said, “I know that they all think I’m in Spider-Man because I’m filming something in London, but I’m not. I’m not in Spider-Man. … I’m just concentrating on DD right now.” The actor additionally confirmed he isn’t in Avengers: Doomsday.

However, Marvel fans aren’t buying it. Ian said of Cox, “Alright, I changed my mind. He’s the new Andrew Garfield.” The comment references Garfield repeatedly denying he was in No Way Home.

X user prattweets10 pointed out that Cox “brought up Spider-Man unprompted just to deny it” and accompanied their post with an image of Garfield holding his hands up.

Meanwhile, another Marvel fan, Amal, flat out accused Cox of lying, writing, “I can see a lying charles entertainment cox when i see one.”

X user Bennis pointed out, “Him and andrew are def friends,” which is true. Cox, Garfield and other actors, including Batman star Robert Pattinson, all shared an apartment in London when they were first starting out. They’ve remained friends since.

Finally, Shane summed up the situation simply in their opinion: “This is Andrew Garfield all over again.”

As of now, it’s unclear whether Cox truly is part of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast, but one thing is known: Marvel fans certainly believe he is. After all, he did show up in No Way Home for a brief scene, and it would make sense if he appeared in Brand New Day since both Daredevil and Spider-Man are based in New York City.

Whether the fans prove to be right remains to be seen. That said, even if Cox’s Daredevil doesn’t appear in the film, Brand New Day has plenty of other MCU connections. Not only will Mark Ruffalo return as Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Jon Bernthal will appear as Punisher, which is another reason fans think it makes sense for Daredevil to show up.

After Daredevil and Spider-Man shared a scene in No Way Home, fans have been clamoring for the superheroes to team up, but whether that happens in Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t yet known. Hopefully, as the release date gets closer, and whenever a Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is released, we’ll learn more about what Marvel heroes can be expected to appear in the MCU movie.
