Currently, Apple has not made any official announcement on whether Chief of War is renewed or canceled. But given that there is still a lot more of the story left, there is a chance that Apple might renew the show.
Although there is no official announcement, the producers of the show, Thomas Pa’a Sibbett and Jason Momoa, hope that they will get to make more seasons. During the interview with Hawaii News Now, Momoa spoke about the production difficulties. “We have a lot of fights to battle and to go through because it’s not our money making this, but you know, it’s a collaborative process,” Momoa shared.
When the interviewer asked him how he felt about producing and acting in the show, Momoa responded by saying, “This is definitely my dream.” He further added, “I mean to talk about representation. I’ve never had the opportunity to play anything like an ancestor.”
Chief of War is a historical drama based on true events. It focuses on the story of how four clans of the Hawaiian Islands, Hawaiʻi, Maui, Oʻahu, and Kauaʻi, were in a state of war against invaders. Momoa plays Ka’iana, a Hawaiian war chief in the late 18th century. He travels abroad to understand the foreign invaders threatening his homeland. Upon his return, he aims to bring all four rival clans together.
Apart from acting and co-creating the show, Momoa plays a significant role behind the scenes. He is also a producer, writer, and director for the show. He has directed the upcoming finale episode, “The Black Desert.”
The cast also includes Cliff Curtis, Luciane Buchanan, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Te Kohe Tuhaka, and Mainei Kinimaka.
