With GTA 6now less than a year away (barring any further delays), a lot of gamers have started to wonder what GTA 6‘s online counterpart will be like. The good news is we now have a pretty solid idea, thanks to a new report from an industry veteran.
The gaming industry’s Rich Vogel has worked on some mega franchises over the years, lending his expertise to the likes of Star Wars and Halo, and working with studios like Bethesda and BioWare. It’s no surprise, then, that he’s amassed an enviable contact book, and has apparently heard some very exciting things about GTA 6 Online.
GTA 6 Online Gameplay Sounds Super Ambitious
But are we really surprised?
In a recent interview with Wccftech, Vogel teased what he’s heard about GTA 6 from industry peers over the last year or so. While we should stress this is hardly official confirmation, it is a pretty exciting potential tease for what’s to come. In short, Vogel explained that GTA 6 Online could be more of an MMORPG than its predecessor.
“If what I have been hearing about GTA 6’s features and gameplay is true, it could evolve into an MMORPG, as many of its planned features are typically found in MMORPGs.”
While this isn’t particularly specific, it does give a flavor of what Rockstar Games might be cooking with GTA 6 Online. It’s little surprise that the follow-up to GTA Online is going to be bigger, deeper, and more ambitious. Certainly, GTA Online essentially started as multiplayer GTA 5, but has since evolved into an MMORPG in its own right, with heaps of content, customization features, and a continually developing story. It makes sense GTA 6 would continue this trend.
This news has, predictably, led to some discussion among fans. “So unironically, the bank is a raid and your gang is your guild. Yeah, I can see it LMAO,” writes one gamer.
“This is going to be a mature audience answer to Fortnite and Roblox, and it’s going to make a trillion dollars,” another predicts.
“I couldn’t care less, as long as it doesn’t touch single-player,” a third says.
GTA 6 Online Features Have Already Been Officially Teased
Right under our noses
You might have missed it, but the latest GTA Online update introduced a ton of new features that have effectively given us our first glimpse at what GTA 6 and its own online mode will have to offer us. Some of the new gameplay elements incorporated into GTA Online include the ability to work out, and many more buildings that can be entered seamlessly. There are also now customizable pets, which is frankly as MMORPG-like as it can get.
GTA Online has always been a place for Rockstar to test out new features. The developer can patch in and out new mechanics quickly, meaning it’s safe to assume GTA Online‘s current state is absolutely our best possible indication of what’s coming on November 19 next year.
