Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games of all time, and its recent delay to November 2026 has fans worried there may be another. We’re closing in on the two-year anniversary of the first GTA 6 trailer, which released in December 2023. It was originally supposed to release in 2025, but was delayed earlier this year to May 2026. Even then, fans were predicting a second delay, and now that it’s materialized, a third is again being expected by some.
A year out from its newly set release date, and around the time it was originally slated to come out, GTA 6 fans are already losing hope for its November 19, 2026, release date, and it’s easy to understand why. In a Reddit thread from user Norbe777 commencing a one-year countdown, comments have turned sour. “Not getting hyped until I know for certain that it’s coming out on that date,” wrote u/Blizzard2227. Another comment from u/deep_fried_cheese shares the sentiment: “1 year from now we will be waiting for it to come out in a year.“
GTA 6’s Latest Delay Has Fans Terrified
Delays are by no means uncommon in the gaming industry, but this most recent one moving GTA 6 to a year out clearly has fans spooked. Redditor MTH1138 posted a comparison graphic showing how Grand Theft Auto 6‘s delays mirror those of Red Dead Redemption 2 before it finally released in 2018. The top comment from u/TheVeryRareGuy is simply an edited title card showing GTA 6 releasing in May 3063. While the game releasing 1,038 years from now is clearly facetious, another comment, from u/ZOoNeR_, reads very far into the situation, pointing out that pre-orders for GTA 6 haven’t been advertised, insinuating that Rockstar isn’t even confident in its new date.
Even those fans that aren’t outright expecting another delay are preparing for disappointment. A post from u/Ashamed_Ad1622 asks, “Do y’all think we’re going into half a year of silence now?” Commenter u/guifesta bluntly replies, “Yes. I just expect the worst now.“ Fans are generally understanding about delays, but the response to this most recent for GTA 6 feels more dour. Perhaps it’s just because we’re now exactly one year away, but people seem to have much less confidence in the November 2026 date than the previous May 2026 one.
There’s No Guarantee GTA 6 Won’t Be Delayed Again
While all the doom and gloom can be seen as an overreaction, it’s not exactly unwarranted. Rockstar titles are generation-defining and medium-advancing, and if GTA 6 is as ambitious and detailed as expected, it wouldn’t be surprising if the studio comes back in another six months to move the release date again. With all the hype, GTA 6 has to stick the landing, and if it’s not polished by the time the pre-release marketing ramps up, another delay may be the only option.
Having an exact release date announced is usually reassuring, but in GTA 6‘s case, with the date a year away, it understandably feels the opposite to many. In November 2025, November 2026 is immaterial. If Rockstar had announced this delay with a return to a broad release window, however, the response would have been much worse. Ultimately, the only thing we can do is wait. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release on November 19, 2026, and legions of fans won’t be surprised if that doesn’t happen.
