Good Burger stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are reuniting for a new movie that involves Frankenstein’s monster. The two comedians first met while working on Nickelodeon’s sketch show All That and continued collaborating with Kenan & Kel, Good Burger, and Good Burger 2.
Now, Thompson and Mitchell are starring in and producing Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein. They will play two delivery drivers who accidentally wake Frankenstein’s monster when their drop-offs take them to a sinister castle. This turns an initially routine night of work into a fight for survival.
The horror-comedy film, produced by Thompson’s Artists for Artists and Range Media, will begin production this summer. Jonah Feingold, who previously directed and wrote At Midnight and 31 Candles, is writing the script.
Thompson broke the news on Prime Video’s Good Sports, a talk show he hosts with Kevin Hart. Check out his statement about the upcoming project below:
Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected. We’re excited to bring a fresh take on a classic monster story and have some fun doing it.
Mitchell also spoke about how excited he is to reunite with Thompson while teasing what audiences can expect from their newest movie together.
Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new. It’s funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride.
With Good Burger releasing in 1997 and Kenan and Kel running until the early 2000s, there was a long wait until they reunited to lead Good Burger 2‘s cast in 2023. Production beginning for Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein means that the next gap between their projects has proven to be far shorter.
The movie’s announcement comes amid many interpretations, both dramatic and comedic, of Frankenstein and his monster. This includes Guillermo del Toro’s Frankensteincoming to Netflix in 2025, The Bride of Frankenstein-inspired The Bride! releasing in theaters this March, and the humorous Very Young Frankenstein being given a pilot order at FX.
As a horror-comedy film, Thompson and Mitchell’s take on Mary Shelley’s classic tale will seemingly have more in common with Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein or Very Young Frankenstein. It is also expanding on the kind of genre featured in the comedians’ previous movies and shows, with Mitchell even hinting that it will be “scary.”
Beyond Good Burger and his other collaborations with Mitchell, Thompson is known for being a longtime Saturday Night Live cast member. He first joined the sketch comedy series in 2003 and has now been there longer than any other cast member.
