Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Names 1 Actor She Can’t Mock

Comedian Nikki Glaser is all set to return to host the Golden Globe Awards, and one Hollywood veteran is exempt from being made fun of. While it’s common that the host of the award show makes jokes about other artists in the industry, Glaser admitted that she can’t poke fun at one specific actress.

‘You cannot make fun of’ Julia Roberts, says Nikki Glaser

In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Morning, Nikki Glaser revealed the name of the one actress that she can’t joke about when she returns to host the 83rd Golden Globe Awards next week.

“I’m trying out my monologue around LA at the clubs here, and just even any joke about Julia Roberts,” she said. “They are not there for it. You cannot make fun of America’s sweetheart.”

The Emmy-nominated comedian continued, “Whatever I end up saying about her, that is the most fine-tuned joke that I’ve worked on so hard, because it is very delicate. I mean, they were booing, and I was like, ‘Is she here?’ It’s insane. I get it, though.”

The 41-year-old referred to hosting the awards as a “covert mission.” She explained, “You have to be very delicate about making jokes that aren’t going to ruin anyone’s night, but you also want to give the people at home something to laugh at. You want to poke fun at the people they’re dying for you to make fun of. Like people at home want you to make fun of the A-listers.”

“They want you to make them feel a little bit uncomfortable,” Glaser continued. “So, it’s covert in the sense that I want to get away with those jokes without just ruining the vibe in the room. So, it’s really strategic, and it’s one of the most difficult jobs I’ve ever had is picking the perfect jokes.”

Nikki Glaser is widely popular for her sharp roasting skills, as showcased on Comedy Central Roast. However, she said that she intends to avoid “mean” jokes, believing that the award attendees have not “signed up” for it. “I leave the mean for the roast,” she said.

“You know, I think people have known me as like, ‘Wow, she tells really mean jokes.’ I really save that for the roast because that’s the place to do them. People have signed up for that [here] ,” The Trainwreck actress explained.

The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will air on Sunday, January 11, 2026, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
