The friendship between Gio and Emma has come to notice in General Hospital’s recent storylines. Actor Giovanni Mazza, who plays Gio, recently opened up about the relationship and whether romance is on the horizon.

Giovanni Mazza is thrilled that General Hospital fans have connected so strongly with the dynamic between Gio and Emma. From Emma being there with Gio as he grappled with the truth about his biological parents, to now, Gio standing by her as her cousin Maxie fights for her life. Mazza believes their ability to be brutally honest with one another makes the duo stand out.
“I’m so glad that the fans are picking up on our connection,” Mazza told Soap Opera Digest. “Opposites attract, right? And I think we’re not afraid of each other…Even if one of them goes too far, they can talk it out and continue to have a great relationship,” he added.
While the General Hospital fanbase is hoping for some romance between Gio and Emma, Mazza admitted that nothing is official yet in the scripts. “I haven’t gotten a script where I confess my love or I’ve kissed her yet,” he teased, before adding, “but she has an undeniable presence in my heart, whether it be as friends or more.”
However, the bluntness helped build the trust Gio needed when he was spiraling. “In this time where he was sort of losing it, she was not afraid, which is really special,” Mazza explained. “She was there for Gio… and she offered her support with no strings attached,” he further stated.
The closeness between Mazza and his co-star Braedyn Bruner isn’t limited to Port Charles. Off-screen, the two share a genuine friendship that carries into their work. “We’ve become best friends,” Mazza said with a smile. “She celebrated my birthday with me — she came to all the festivities — and on the show, she’s sort of like my rock. It’s just undeniable what’s there,” he added.
