Frank Grillo is on top of the world right now after starring in Creature Commandos last year and now Superman. He’ll even continue his run of DC success into next month by starring opposite John Cena in Peacemaker Season 2, but his future beyond that has yet to be revealed. When Grillo first lent his voice to the role of Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, he can be seen sporting a “silver fox” look with a striking white beard and white hair, but when he shows up for the first time in live-action for Superman, which takes place after Creature Commandos, his hair and beard are black.
Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a FanX panel at the Atlanta Comic Convention for Grillo and Garrett Hedlund, who both star together in Taylor Sheridan’s hit series, Tulsa King. Lovitt expressed interest in seeing Rick Flag Sr.’s signature white hair and beard translated into live-action, and Grillo confirmed that the only reason it didn’t happen in Superman is that he was going back and forth from filming the first DCU movie and Tulsa King at the same time.
Grillo also confirmed that when San Diego Comic-Con kicks off this week, there’s going to be some new footage of Peacemaker Season 2 shown ahead of its August 21 release date. He even teased that there may be a surprise in store for fans anxious to see his “silver fox” animated look translated into live-action, and also mentioned that it could be coming in a future season:
“We’re showing Peacemaker next week at Comic-Con in San Diego, so I’m gonna try to dye my hair for that. But, you know, hopefully next season I’ll be able to do it.”
Silver fox or not, Grillo has been an outstanding addition to the DCU thus far, and it sounds like James Gunn has plans for him to be around for years to come.
Frank Grillo Also Once Starred in the MCU
Grillo’s role in the DCU is far from the first time he’s played an iconic comic book character. He first suited up as Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the 2014 MCU smash hit starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. He returned briefly in Captain America: Civil War as Crossbones, only to take his own life in a failed attempt to kill Steve Rogers. He later reprised the role in Avengers: Endgame when The Avengers go back in time. It’s unlikely Grillo will ever return to the MCU, but fans can rest easy knowing he’s set to be a DCU staple in the future.
Superman is now playing in theaters everywhere. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the DCU.
