Final Fantasy 7 Remake has recently arrived on Switch 2 and Xbox, renewing interest in the former PlayStation exclusive. Thankfully, most of the game mechanics have remained unchanged, and no matter which platform you’re playing on, the best equipment and Materia for each character still holds true.
As the main protagonist, Cloud is going to be a character you utilize a lot in battle. That means configuring his Materia is arguably the most important of any other characters in FF7 Remake. Obviously, every battle demands its own Materia needs, so you’ll sometimes have to adapt. For example, you may need to tweak Cloud’s Materia in Corneo’s Colosseum, because he has to face enemies alone there.
How To Get Materia For Cloud In FF7 Remake
Materia is found in several locations throughout FF7 Remake. If you’re playing the “Head Start” mode of FF7 Remake Intergrade, then you’ll start with a bunch of Materia right out the gate. Otherwise, you’ll have to purchase Materia, earn it as a reward, or find it in various places across Midgar.
You’ll learn to recognize Materia as colorful glowing orbs throughout the map, some of which are found in hidden locations and off the beaten path of missions. Some Materia is easier to find, tucked in random treasure crates along the way. You can also get a unique set of Materia from Chadley, whose Materia can be unlocked in his shop by completing battle intel missions for him.
Materia colors are broken down into four categories:
- Green—Magic
- Blue—Support
- Yellow—Command
- Purple—Independent Skill Or Attribute
- Red–Summon
Best Materia Choices for Cloud in Final Fantasy 7: Remake
Build out a strong element (Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind) and link it with the Elemental Materia for a solid ranged attack. Applying the combined Elemental + (Fire/Ice/Lightning/Wind) gives Cloud’s weapon an elemental damage boost in combat. Swap the element around depending on enemy weaknesses.
Since Cloud tends to dominate close-range combat, you should favor anything that can feed his Limit gauge and increase his damage output. Haste Materia is a good way to increase his ATB gauge. Steadfast Block is great for defense. Item Master is also great for Cloud, since I just assume everyone mostly controls Cloud in combat.
Overall, prioritize Materia on Cloud that will increase the amount of damage he’s dealing. You can mostly save healing Materia for Aerith. AP Up is another one I’d recommend if you’ve got the Materia slots to spare, since it lets Cloud learn abilities at a much faster rate in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
