Ella Purnell’s 88% RT Serial Killer Show Gets Major Production Update For “Bonkers” Season 2

Ella Purnell’s serial killer show with an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score, Sweetpea, has received a major production update from the star ahead of season 2. The British dark comedy series follows Purnell’s Rhiannon Lewis, a young woman who turns to murder after her father dies. Sweetpea season 2 was announced not long after season 1 premiered.

Speaking with Deadlineabout Fallout season 2, Purnell revealed that Sweetpea season 2 wrapped filming in November 2025. She went on to tease the content of the upcoming episodes, calling the next chapter of Rhiannon’s journey “bonkers.” However, she remains tight-lipped about any major storylines that will transpire. Check out what Purnell had to say below:

I’m exhausted, and it was worth it. It was a really crazy season. Season 1 was quite very small and tame in comparison to how bonkers this season is. There’s so much in it. It’s big.

Sweetpea season 1 ended with a multitude of important developments laying the groundwork for another blood-soaked chapter. The final episode saw Rhiannon kill AJ after he discovered the truth about her murders, the first time she’s killed someone without truly wanting to. She’s also still free, with no one suspecting the truth about her secretive crimes.

However, there are also plenty of mysteries season 1 leaves dangling, many of which season 2 will, inevitably, have to address. This includes what Julie’s fate will be following her police questioning, as well as whom AJ’s contact in the police force is. Either way, it seems Rhiannon’s actions have only exacerbated her suffering, something season 2 will likely focus on.

The series is one of multiple ongoing TV series roles she has as of writing. The others include the starring role in Falloutas Lucy MacLean, and a recurring role in Yellowjackets, which is set to end with the upcoming season 4. Her other forthcoming projects include a British horror comedy about killer squirrels called The Scurry and serial killer comedy Hot Ted.

As for when Sweetpea season 2 will come out, Purnell’s filming update is a strong sign the series will see a return in 2026. Season 1 was filmed in November and December 2023 before coming out in October 2024. Given the similar time of year season 2 started filming, a Fall 2026 release window for the upcoming episodes seems like a safe bet.

With Sweetpea season 2’s filming complete, it won’t be long until there are more updates to the series’ story and what to expect from Purnell’s character. Since her current focus is on Fallout season 2, it seems like more information will arrive after the Prime Video adaptation is over. Either way, it’s a promising update to her serial killer story.
