Christian Bale’s 10-Time Oscar-Nominated Period Drama Finally Comes Home to Streaming Soon

Christian Bale will always be known for playing Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, but one year after he played Bruce Wayne for the final time, he featured amidst a star-studded ensemble in a period drama that’s coming to streaming. Bale stars alongside Amy Adams (Man of Steel) and Bradley Cooper (Superman) in American Hustle, the 2013 film following a con man and his seductive partner who are forced to work for a wild F.B.I. agent who pushes them deep into the throes of New Jersey’s mafia. Currently only streaming on Pluto TV, Paramount+ has stepped in and confirmed that American Hustle will begin streaming on the service on August 1. The film earned a “Certified Fresh” rating of 92% from critics and 74% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed $251 million globally against a $40 million budget.

Bale, Adams, and Cooper aren’t the only stars with roles in American Hustle, though. The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), Jeremy Renner (Mayor of Kingstown), and Michael Peña (Landman). David O. Russell and Eric Warren Singer wrote the script for American Hustle, and Russell also stepped behind the camera to direct the film. American Hustle was nominated for 10 Oscars at the 2014 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Lead Actor (Christian Bale), Best Lead Actress (Amy Adams), Best Supporting Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Costume Design, Best Directing, Best Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Original Screenplay. American Hustle had the most nominations that year, but it sadly did not take home any awards. Several went to Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave.

When Does Christian Bale’s Next Movie Come Out?

Bale’s next movie has been set for release on March 6, 2026. He will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Penélope Cruz in The Bride, the horror film by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The Bride is set in 1930s Chicago and tells the story of Dr. Euphronius’ journey to build Frankenstein a companion. Bale has also been tapped to star alongside Nicolas Cage in Madden, the biopic about the life of John Madden. The film is currently in production, but a release date has yet to be announced. Bale most recently appeared in live-action in 2022’s The Pale Blue Eye.

American Hustle begins streaming on Paramount+ on August 1. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and coverage of Bale’s future projects.
