Brandon Rogers Reacts to ‘Helluva Boss’ Cameo: “I Thought It Was Animated Out of Spite” [Exclusive]

This article contains spoilers for the new Helluva Boss episode, “Mission: Zero.”Brandon Rogers may have built a career on outrageous comedy, but even he didn’t see one of Helluva Boss’ outrageous new moves coming. In the brand-new episode, “Mission: Zero,” which debuted September 10 on Prime Video, Rogers himself appears in animated form — shotgun in hand — as he pursues the employees of Immediate Murder Professionals after they hit series creator Vivienne Medrano (also in animated form, of course) with a bus. For a series that thrives on chaos, the gag landed perfectly, but according to Rogers, he had no idea it was happening until fans started posting the scene online.

As he exclusively revealed to Collider’s Hannah Hunt, Rogers was blindsided by his unexpected cameo:

“I didn’t know they were going to put us in the pilot! Someone posted the clip (where Viv gets hit by the bus) and I thought it was something they animated out of spite, so I blocked them. Then someone else posted it, and then someone else, and then I realized it was part of the episode! I held my hand up to my TV and even his skin color was accurate. Honored to be in an animation, and in the pilot no less. Glad they didn’t kill me off!”

A Canonical Reset for ‘Helluva Boss’

The moment comes during “Mission: Zero,” which serves as the updated, canonical pilot for Helluva Boss. The series originally launched on YouTube in 2019 with a now non-canon pilot that introduced Blitzø, Moxxie, Millie, and Loona. While that first version quickly went viral, the story and characterizations evolved significantly across Seasons 1 and 2. “Mission: Zero” was crafted to bring new viewers up to speed while aligning the show’s origin story with the canon that fans now know and love.

Alongside the special, Prime Video rolled out new updates to Helluva Boss’ first two seasons, polishing the animation and reimagining certain moments previously trimmed or softened for YouTube. With fewer content restrictions than its original platform, the series can now appear in the form the creators intended, raunchier and more unfiltered than ever before — with some moments still blurred and filtered to land comedically. For longtime fans, it’s a chance to revisit familiar episodes in a higher-quality presentation. For newcomers, “Mission: Zero” acts as a streamlined entry point into the series.

Helluva Boss has been renewed for two more seasons on Prime Video, with Season 4 set to mark the series’ final season. While a release date for Season 3 has yet to be announced, Helluva Boss‘ sister series under the same Hellaverse, Hazbin Hotel, is set to premiere its second season on October 29. Until then, if you’re eager for more Blitzø, the chaotic imp will be making his live-action debut in Rogers’ upcoming YouTube special A Night at the Park, which is set to premiere on September 19.
