Bold & Beautiful’s Lisa Yamada Explains How Luna Became a Villain

When The Bold and the Beautiful first brought Luna Nozawa onto the scene in late 2023, she came off as the picture of innocence, sweet, grounded, and full of light. Fast-forward a year, and that sunshine has turned into full-blown storm clouds. Luna has gone from the nice girlfriend to one of the show’s most talked-about villains, leaving fans completely stunned.

Now, actress Lisa Yamada is spilling the tea on how that wild transformation happened, and it all started with one holiday conversation with the show’s creator that reversed Luna’s entire storyline.

Lisa Yamada on how Luna became a murderer on The Bold and the Beautiful

Lisa Yamada, fresh off her first Emmy win for playing Luna Nozawa, recently spilled that her character’s dark turn was never part of the original script. When she joined The Bold and the Beautiful in late 2023, Luna was written as your typical “sweet, virginal girl,” someone everyone was supposed to root for.

“In the beginning, I was playing a sweet, virginal girl, and no one was really buying it,” Yamada told Soaps, laughing about how flat that early version felt. Back then, Luna’s story was mostly about her romance with R.J. Forrester, and the never-ending mystery around her paternity.

However, Yamada wanted something spicier and layered. Her chance came at the show’s annual Christmas party, where, after a few drinks and some courage, she pitched a totally new direction for Luna to head writer and executive producer Bradley Bell. This changed the trajectory of her entire character and what she was supposed to be.

“I drunkenly told him at a Christmas party, ‘I want to be bad,’” she recalled. “And he was like, ‘OK.’”

Under Bradley Bell’s direction, Luna’s story took a complete left turn. Fans watched in shock as her once-sweet character completely unraveled, going full villain mode. She killed two people, framed her own mom, and did many things that had everyone’s jaws on the floor. Yamada also loved that Luna went bad, because it rendered her character more layered and complex.

“I didn’t mean bad-bad,” “I meant like a bada–, but [Bell] totally took it and ran with it.”

Even though Luna’s now behind bars, her story’s far from over. Yamada teased that Luna is pregnant with Will Spencer’s baby, and she’s planning to use that to work the system and get out of prison.
