Since it will be a while before Reacher season 4 is released on Prime Video, viewers waiting for its release can fill the void by watching a forgotten but brilliant Netflix crime thriller. The one-season wonder on Netflix never leaves a dull moment and boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%.
Based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books, Prime Video’s Reacher is easily one of the most popular and acclaimed action thrillers on streaming right now. Given how the show is also expanding its source material’s lore with the upcoming Neagley spin-off show, its streaming domination will likely grow from strength to strength.
While the Neagley spin-off will likely premiere towards the end of 2025 or early 2026, Reacher season 4‘s release window seems a little uncertain. Fortunately, while waiting for its release on Prime Video, audiences have the opportunity to check out one of Netflix’s most compelling offerings in the crime thriller genre.
Netflix’s Bodyguard Is The Perfect Warm-Up Show To Prepare For Reacher Season 4
Long before Alan Ritchson donned Jack Reacher’s iconic mantle and became Tom Cruise’s successor, Netflix released an incredibly taut and immersive crime thriller, Bodyguard. Starring Richard Madden as its war veteran lead, Sergeant David Budd, the show walks through all the challenges Budd faces after becoming politician Julia Montague’s protection officer.
Apart from keeping viewers hooked with its memorable action set pieces, Bodyguard compels with its police procedural drama and memorable performances. The show also does not overstay its welcome and delivers a nail-biting experience with its tight, well-crafted six-episode runtime.
Interestingly, Reacher season 4 will seemingly share many similarities with Bodyguard. Since the upcoming season of the Alan Ritchson series is adapting Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, it will be far more political and in tandem with Bodyguard, unlike its previous seasons. Like Bodyguard, it will also begin with the protagonist foiling a suicide bomber on a train.
The protagonists in both shows are also war veterans with history in Afghanistan, and Reacher and Budd also get embroiled in massive government conspiracies that highlight the dangers of unchecked political ambition. With so many intriguing thematic and narrative overlaps between the two, Bodyguard seems like the perfect warm-up show before Reacher season 4.
Reacher Season 4’s Bodyguard Similarities Prove It Could Be A Game Changer For The Prime Video Franchise
Early reports suggested that Bodyguard was picked up for another season, but the flywheels of its new installment’s production seemingly never moved forward. Despite having one season, though, Bodyguard is often remembered as one of the most gripping and bingeable offerings of the crime-thriller genre.
Did You Know: Bodyguard became the BBC’s highest-rated drama premiere to-date after it was seen by 6.8 million viewers on BBC One (via The Telegraph).
With its shared elements with Netflix‘s Bodyguard, Reacher season 4, too, seems to be taking the overarching Prime Video franchise in a fascinating direction, where it will have everything from high-stakes political intrigue to full-blown conspiracy drama. If all goes well, this gradual change in narrative direction could make Prime Video’s Reacher season 4 the most ambitious and defining season yet.
