Avengers: Doomsday star Simu Liurecently shared what it’s like working with Robert Downey Jr., along with the surreal experience of having lunch with him on set. Recalling the moment, Liu revealed that Downey Jr. has his own dedicated area at base camp, famously referred to as “Downey Land.” He said he was summoned to Downey’s space and was invited to have lunch with him and his special guests.

In a conversation with Collider, Liu revealed that the Iron Man actor has a dedicated space on the set, which they referred to as “Downey Land.” Recalling his experience in Downey’s space, he said, “And I remember getting invited to Downey Land for the first time and just showing up in this tent, and it’s all this beautiful Andy Warhol-esque artwork, except all the characters are Downey. I mean, he’s so self-aware.”
He revealed that when he went inside the tent, he was greeted by Downey Jr. He further mentioned that the space had chefs who had laid out an entire buffet. Although he had brought his own lunch, Downey Jr. insisted that he join them instead. “And then just the people walking through, I was like, ‘I cannot believe I’m having lunch with these people,’” he added.
During his time at Downey Land, he noticed that the people around him were in different stages of their superhero costumes, some wearing them fully, while others had partially stripped them down due to discomfort. Expressing his gratefulness for the moment, he further added, “Some people have really uncomfortable costumes, so they like to strip down, or it’s three pieces, and they strip out of two. It’s all of us just kind of sitting around and talking about our lives and our careers. Those are priceless, irreplaceable memories that I’ll have for the rest of my life.”
